OT: Lotion for itchy skin

I have sensitive skin and as soon as it gets cold out, I itch like crazy. I normally can't use things w/ perfumes in it etc (use ivory soap). Trying to find a non irritant lotion for winter itchy skin. HELP

I have the lotion for you! I suffer with the same problem (it gets so bad it turns into eczema). My son also has eczema. I have found a great solution. Walmart sells their brand of generic Eucerin. It MUST be the one in the tub. It is very thick. I use it two times a day and it really helps. Eucerin can be expensive, but the generic brand is very reasonably priced.

Hope this helps,

Cheri

Oh, I am not alone!

I am suffering with the worst winter itch, I scratch my legs until they bleed. I have tried everything. I use Band-Aid brand anti-itch gel ointment stuff. Its really for cuts, scrapes, burns, insect bites, but I smear it on my legs and it numbs it long enough to get to sleep. Its seems the worse in the evening for some reason.

I love the lotion made by Melaleuca. My skin is so sensitive and this doesn't irritate it at all. It is a good price and it works really well. PM me for the website if you want it.

I have the same problem, and sometimes end up with it so bad that I have to get steriod shots.

I second the Eucerin suggestion, it's what my doctor recommends. I always buy the generic wherever I'm at, and haven't had any problems.

I also use Ivory moisturing liquid shower soap (the super moisturizing one, can't remember what they call it), and put on the Eucerin AS SOON as I get out of the shower.

I thrid the Eucerin. I have eczema and my dermatoligist told me thats what I shoudl be using. I got the Walmart brand last week since my jar ran out. I spend $7 on a 4oz jar of the namebrand Eucerin. But the Walmart brand I got a l16oz jar for $4. The Walmart one is Equate Dry Skin Cream.

Another lotion that seems to work is Ceitophil(SP). It can be found in the face wash section. There's soap and lotion. I know walmart also makes their brand in that the name brand one is like $8 a bottle, but the WM brand is $4 a bottle. I use that one at work since I work in an infant room at a daycare. I'm always washing my hands. My co-worker's Dermatologist recomended we started using that soap and lotion because both her and my hands started breaking out.

My husband is a pharmacist who does compounding. He makes a cream that is the best stuff I have ever used!! It is sold by prescription only. I would find a local pharmacy that does compounding and see what they can offer you. If you want more info about it, please pm me.

Kelly,
We use it for both! My four year old has eczema very bad. We have to be very careful about all soaps, shampoos, and laundry detergents with him. This is the only thing that has helped him. I also have terribly dry skin and get little tiny bumps on the backs of my arms in the winter. I just decided to start using this stuff about 3 weeks ago, and now my arms are smooth and don't itch any more. It is great stuff!

Plain old Vaseline. Just rub it on and in after showering. Anna
