Question OT: Baptismal Clothing Question

So. . .when children are baptised do the HAVE to wear a white gown? I mean, we're bringing home a nine-month old child. He'll probably get baptised around 10 months old. Where am I supposed to find a gown for a 10 month old? Can't I just dress him in a nice outfit?

We are United Methodists--we just dressed our son in a white outfit. Our family has a christening gown that we traditionally use, but Joseph was too big to fit into it at 1 year, so he got to have a new tradition!

We would probably dress him in a white suit. That is what we did with Bryan and he was a baby. But 9 months old, I would rather see him in a suit than a gown unless it is a strong fa,ily tradition to wear the gown, then I would do that.

I am probably just going to dress my son in a white shirt and khaki pants. The white gown thing just isn't going to work for us.

We are Catholic and..

..the church supplies the gowns. I know because my mom embroiders them for our church!!

And we were just at my brother's baby girls christening yesterday and the decon gave teh family the gowns.

We will be dressing AJ (he will be just shy of 7 months) in white pants, shirt, socks, shoes and probably a white vest and tie.

That is so cool!

My kids were 17 months and a week shy of 2 when they were baptised so a gown really wouldn't have worked for either of them. Daniel wore tan pants, a light blue dress shirt and a blue blazer. Lauren had a yellow and white dress that I got at a resale shop. In our church (Catholic) they are supposed to be in only a diaper and onesie until after the baptism and then you can put the gown/whatever on. Not only did that not really work great with older children, it seemed crazy to spend a ton of money on clothes that essentially they would only wear on the way to and from church.

Stores that carry gowns often have bigger sizes so you can get them if that is what you really want.

We're Catholic and when Alistair got Baptised he was 20 mos old. Way too big for the gown!! We had him in a nice little pant outfit (no suit, just pants and a sweater vest). Just make sure there is SOME white on him and you should be fine.

My son was 8 months old when he was baptized and I got his outfit at an Irish boutique. It was a one piece shorts outfit. They had larger sizes too. Also stores like Babies R Us and Sears also have Baptism outfits that have pants.

Our baby was 13 months old when we were finally able baptised her. I found a beautiful dress at our mall. They had little boys outfits also. Not everyone is lucky enough to be able to baptise at 4 weeks old, so the outfits are out there for us.

I dressed both of mine in traditional Guatemalan attire at their baptisms.

Many older children get christened or baptized. Penney's always has a nice selection in infant/toddler and even larger sizes.

My mom purchased a baptismal suit in a size 12 mo. @ TJMaxx. Now I'm just hoping my son won't outgrow it before he has a chance to use it.

We are Baptist so we do baby dedications. Basically the same thing. Just saying as parents we dedicate our child to the Lord. We had Sara Ava dedicated 8 days after arriving home. (My moms idea so all the family could come and meet her) She just wore all white , a summer dress with white sandles. (She is 2 almost 3.) Then afterwards we had a big celebration at a mexican resturant. It was really special and fun!
