We brought our daughter home on an IR3 Visa here in Missouri, so we filed for her MO birth certificate - we got a call yesterday from Vital Records, and they don't like the fact that Erika's Guatemalan BC has our names listed as the parents. They want the original one which lists her birthmother - have any of you run into this, and how was it resolved? I have looked everywhere, and can only find BC's with our names.

WHAT?????? You are her legal parents! What on earth does her origional BC have to do with anything and what could they possibly need it for? I would call back and speak to a supervisor.

Also, I've heard that the counties are implementing things different. A couple in the Kansas City area aren't quite the same as the rest of the state for some reason. So, please consider this in what you find out.

But I do agree with the post above - the latest legal BC from Guatemala should be what they are working with, not the original.

I live in MO and am not happy to hear this, but also not surprised. Sounds like a MO agency! Def. call and raise Cain.

Yeah - it's been a real pain - I just can't believe that I'm the first person to try this - the lady acted like she'd never seen a BC like this before, and I know we're not the first family to adopt from Guatemala whose applied for this.

My SW is supposed to be checking on it for me - so once I hear back from her, I'll update any new info.

Anyone else been through this?

There have to be more people out there that have done this and just are not on-line right now. I have not heard of anyone one having this problem. Missouri recognizes foreign adoptions, so I don't understand why they would have a problem with the BC. Let us know if you get info.

Ok - so here's what has happened:
I called the gal back on Monday, and basically told her that there wasn't anyway to get another BC, and that the one I sent was all we had. I asked if there was any way that one could be used, or if there was something else I could send. She said "Let me check with my supervisor" - came back a couple of minutes later and said "This one will work just fine." So guess I should have just pushed harder the first time.

Anyway - for those of you out there who still have this to do in Missouri, just make sure that you push that woman a little when you send in your stuff
