Just our situation in our state:
I made it more confusing and difficult for our lawyer by not readopting first and getting the name change at that time. Because we did a name change first, he is having to research and ask a lot of questions of the very people at the state level who were confused in the first place by our state's change in adoption laws in the last few years. It was going to cost us more just to get this accomplished for my piece of mind...now I'm sure I've added more "by the hourly" wage for our lawyer. He's a good, small town, local guy, and he knows now he's got another adoption to finalize for us when our next one comes home. Discount, maybe? |

Not to hijack the thread, but does anyone know if you can do the recognition of foreign birth and name change in GA without having to readopt? I have gotten quotes from Lawyers from $1100 to $2000 to do the readoption. Like many of you, I am tapped out financially right now after the adoption fees.

Tybeemuffin,
according to the NAIC website GA is one of the states the DOES regonize a international adoption....so my guess would be see county clerk about doing a delayed registration of birth (once that is done) then after that I believe you apply for the a name change (if needed/wanted). if you want to see the website the lists the state laws....search NAIC state international adoption laws (not sure i could post site) ![]() chris

Here in MO, we don't have to readopt, so we aren't. Though I'm now having issues getting Erika's BC - but hoepfully that will be resolved soon. All we are supposed to have to do is file for her BC with the name we'd like for her, and we are done.
