November is Nat'l Adoption Awareness Month. What three things (if you could choose three of the most important ones) would you like people to know about adoption?

1. Adoption is NOT a last resort or a second choice.
2. Adoptive families are equal and just as precious as biologically-grown families.
3. Adopted children are equally well-adjusted and happy as any biological child.

If I had more time to think about it I could probably word it better, but I get tired of people thinking adoption is a last resort or that it's second best. I get tired of people thinking that somehow having biological children opposed to adopted children is better, or easier. And finally, I get tired of hearing that all adopted children end up with emotional and adjustment problems. If I had a dollar for every horror story I've been told! Believe it or not, I had someone WHOSE BIOLOGICAL CHILD HAD BEEN IN PRISON that I was making a mistake..."those children are just never right in the head." Oh yes, and your biological child is so well adjusted and contributing positively to society. I'm a very forgiving person, but I have never spoken to that person again. Children are children people...if you're screwed up, they'll be screwed up!!! Whew, glad I got that out of my system!
