Time lines for older child adoptions

I am hoping that those among us who have already brought home, or at least have gotten through PGN, with older children will share your time line with us. I was warned early on that our file would be scrutinized more carefully in PGN because of her current age and her age at relinquishment, but I have been optimistic until recently that we would still get our daughter home this year. We entered PGN on July 7, went into investigation around Sept. 1, out of investigation around Sept. 27, and back to reviewing attorney to clear up a couple previos. I don't know where we are now. Anyone care to share so I know what to expect? Thanks!

Heart 7 year old

Our case is in PGN. We had a ko on Friday and are back in. I think it was a minor item missing but not sure. We were not told it would take any longer than any other adoption due to her age.

I would also love to hear if there are any differences in time lines etc. We really want to get her here soon! We keep hoping we will be able to pick her up in time to celebrate Christmas!

Up until now, it seemed to go pretty fast!

DNA approved June 06
PA Approved August 06
PGN September 1 06
KO Oct. 27 06

Our agency didn't tell us it would take longer, but another adoptive parent did. Our agency actually doesn't understand why it is taking so long, but that's kind of par for the course (I'm not exactly happy with our agency).

I'm glad to see others who are adopting older children, too. My timeline is getting longer by the day. We didn't have to go into an investigation in Minors' Court. I've had a kickout for various previos, and am hoping that the case will get out soon. When I first started the process, my agency felt like I'd get through quicker since it was an abandonment case, and no DNA was required. That was before things slowed way down in PGN.

I don't know if this helps but our children were 2 1/2 and 4 yrs old when they came into care. It took almost 18 months to come home. Their case was a direct relinguisment. This was also about 12 yrs ago. Anna

Our Isaac's case took 19 months from referral to homecoming. He was 4 1/2 yrs. old when he arrived home.

The case of our now 9 and 7 year old sibling set also underwent intense scrutiny. They went through two PGN investigations, without a favorable outcome. They are not home yet...17 months so far and we are in for the long haul.

However, we are picking up our 3 year old this weekend and her case took just under 8 months from start to finish. We only had one KO and it went smoothly other than that.

Older children can come home on a good timeline, but I have to say that from what I've seen, their cases almost always go through some extra steps.

I too have a soft spot for these older children and am so thrilled when I see another one being adopted.

I wish I could give you some help, but we can't seem to get past the first step. We lost our first referral of a 5 year old little girl after 13 months of waiting and we are now in month 9 of our second referral (age 5 also) and could not get DNA completed so we are now trying to get an abandonment decree issued. I think it really all depends on each individual situation. Before we accepted our first referral I spoke with someone who brought an older sibling group home in five months. We just seem to have the worst luck. Hope you have better luck!!
