Question Our Joey is very, very, ill.....(long)

This is a long complicated story so I will try and make it short.

Has anyone ever adopted a very sick child? Did you get an allowances for time? Meaning did they push things through quicker? How much quicker?

I know I am probably dreaming thinking they would speed up the process....

We started Joey's adoption in March and the adoption ended being halted not by us but because the facilitator and the birth parents of this child were playing games.

Joey ended up in an orphanage and we lost our money.

We have been waiting for his abandonment decree to officially start his adoption over with the nice people at his orphanage.

Well, he has been sick before but now they suspect that he may have lymphoma.

His previous diagnosis was hepatitis then they changed it to just a viral infection, and now this.

We are visiting tomorrow (wed) and just got word last night that he is very sick in the hospital. They fear the worst.

It is in God's hands and I am trusting that he will make his will known to us. This is very hard after losing him before.

Is there any chance that they would allow him to come to the US to get treated? Or that they would speed up our adoption.

Although they care about him the fact of the matter is that they cannot provide the care that they can here...

Anyone at all have dealings with this type of situation?

They are going to do a biopsy to determine his true diagnosis. He was very ill before about 2 months ago...

Thanks for the prayers and input. By the way, the abandonment hearing is TODAY. Pray for that..

Laura Jean

Laura,

Bassette here on the forums might have some information that might help. If I am remembering correctly, I think she volunteers with an organization that helps children come to the US for vital medical care - but I could be wrong.

This wouldn't be a speed up of the process I don't think - but rather a trip here for treatment then back to Guate to complete the adoption.

I wanted to let you know that I am praying for Joey. I am saddened to hear that he is so sick. I hope that things turn out okay and that perhaps they are mistaken about the lymphoma. Please keep us updated as I am sure that we all very concerned.

I remember a post on Guatadopt.com a few months ago during one of the PGN slowdowns (June maybe?) that indicated that PGN would try to give priority to cases needing medical attention. Of course that is only the PGN part.

Good luck and I am saying a prayer for you and Joey.

First, I will be praying for Joey. Secondly, although I have no official answer for speeding up the process, I have an example. This last visit trip, I rode with a couple in the hotel shuttle who were adopting an older, second child and they said that when they adopted previously, their baby boy was very sick...needed blood transfusions etc... They said they did speed it up for them. So I hope it is an option and they will do the same for you. Best of luck to you.

Plea Letter

I know that when my Dominic was diagnosed "failure to thrive" that our agency told us that we could write a plea letter to PGN due to medical conditions of the child. However when we got that bit of info it was kind of too late because due to a FM change his condition dramatically improved! So ask your agency if a plea letter is applicable in this case. Our agency director said that it works about 60% of the time, but it is at least worth a shot. I know that our agency was having us compose it, and they were going to get it to the proper people to get it into PGN's hands.

I will pray for Joey, and my SIL is a teacher in a Catholic school and they have a prayer circle every morning at school, I will add Joey to this circle for you. You can never have too much prayer in a situation like this one.

I prayed for your precious, Joey - that God would heal him. I also prayed for your abandonment hearing today - that it would go smoothly and that your process to bring him would be lightning speed. ((HUGS)) Stephanie
