Once we get home . . .

What do we have to do to get the Social Security Card? Do we have to readopt and change name before we do this? I would imagine so.

How long does this whole process usually take?

We just finished this whole process. We did the readoption first, so as to get the name change to become llegal. Then we applied for a new Certificate of Citizenship (which can be very time consuming) and once we got the new COC we went to the SS office and applied for a SS card. They said it would take about 10 days to receive it. We've been working on this since May and it's finally over.

Good luck to you!

You can get a SS card in her given name and then change it when you do the re-adopt. We chose to re-adopt first. It depends on your state as to how long it will take.
We are in FL, and there are no post placement visit laws. We came home in Jan. I contacted an attorney in Feb for the re-adoption and name change. Our court date was March 7th.. I received her new BC within days and filed for SS# then.. I still haven't filed for the new CoC but was still able to get the SS# and her US passport.
