Traveling alone (long)

For financial and child care reasons, I am thinking about doing the first visit trip alone. I was feeling pretty confident about it but family and friends are worried so I wanted to check here to see what people thought of the idea. My plan is to go for a long weekend, stay at the hotel right next to the Embassy, and spend the whole time in the hotel with the baby. Aside from the fact that it is sad that the whole family won't meet our child at the same time and my worries about sleep deprivation and not having anyone to run out to get formula etc. what do you think of the plan?

Thanks!!

I think you'll be fine! I went on a visit trip last year with my 9 year old daughter, and we had a wonderful time. You'll meet other parents, so it's not like you will be completely alone. I know the Marriott will run out and get formula, diapers, water, etc.. for their guests. I'm sure other hotels offer a similar service. I am actually going to GC on 11/10 to visit our newest daughter. My husband can't go on this trip, so I'm taking our two daughters ~ ages 10 and 16 months..

I think you'll be fine as long as you use good judgement. It will be a good time for you to bond with the baby! I stayed at the Marriott when I was there last year and felt very safe. And like someone else said, there are many other families around. You'll have plenty of people to talk to and visit with.

Your plan will be fine. I've traveled alone with my 8 month old, to visit my 3 month old. You can do it!

I plan on doing the same. My husband has raised some concerns as well, but I figure if I literally just go from the airport to the hotel and back, I will be fine.

I'm here right now by myself and have been for more than a week, and it's going great! I am a little more tired than usual, but you can definitely do it!! There are a lot of families here and I haven't even been bored once!
I think lots of the hotels will run out and get things for you, and I've never felt unsafe or like it was a problem for me to be here by myself at all. It has been a wonderful opportunity for me to bond with my son, but I am looking forward to his daddy getting here soon too!!
I hope you have a wonderful time!

I went by myself for a week visit. Everyone was freaking out calling me and telliing me that I shouldn't do it, and all they ended up doing was making me upset. Just keep your wits about you and make sure that you use your head and good travel sense.

Looking back, I do wish my dh would have gone with me for these two reasons: first of all, I got food poisoning or something like it off from the ice, and I was soooooo sick for about 4 of the days. I thought they were going to have to come and get our baby because I couldn't get up to get her bottles without throwing up. But it ended up being fine, she just sat by me on the bed and patted my head

The other reason is because I constantly feel like my dh is not missing her as much as me. It could totally be in my head, I'm fully aware that I am going to need therapy after this adoption , but he is more laid back about the adoption and sometimes when I get mad about stuff, he doesn't. That's when I bring up, "Well, you just don't miss her as much because you didn't spend the week with her." So looking back, I really wish he would have gone. But I understand because I did it alone for financial reasons also.

Have fun!!

You will be fine! The hotel has porters that will run and get formula etc for you or there are pharmacies that will deliver.
I went on a visit solo for 5 days and I also fostered at the end solo for over 2 months.
I say go for it!!
