Oh gosh, there are so many!

I'm not sure how old your son is, but my son is 3, and he loves:

Click Clack Moo Cows that Type, by Betsy Lewin (and other books by her)

How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight, by Jane Yolen and Mark Teague (as well as the other "How do Dinosaurs ..." books)

Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus, by Mo Willems (and the other "Pigeon" books)

Can you tell we like to stick with a theme?

Also, "I Love you Stinkyface" and "The Boy who Wouldn't go to Bed" (can't rememeber the authors names right now ).

All good ones Dee! I like your 'theme!'

Some others my kids like are Jamberry (Bruce Degen), any of the Wibbly Pig books, though particularly the flap ones, and any of the other Mick Inkpen books (I love Lullabyhullaballoo.) My daughter is obsessed with Baby Beluga and also likes the Jan Brett books. (The pictures are beautiful.) Depending on his age, the If You Give a Moose a Muffin, If Give a Mouse a Cookie, If You Give A Pig a Pancake etc. by Laura Numeroff are a lot of fun. And you can never have too many Sandra Boyton books!

there was a thread...

i just spent the last half hour looking for a thread i posted on months ago with a great book list - not just for adoption or guatemala.

we have over 1000 children's books in our library for our kids.

we don't watch TV and LOVE to read!

some favorites are -
Guess how much I love you.
It's Time for Bed - By Mem Fox
I'm Thankful for this Day
Good Night God
Thank you God
We have a huge collection of Bilingual Books that are great for 12 months to 4 years
I'm sure I could put a list together if someone can't help us find that thread.

If not - I could try to put a list together of some of the most read books in our house. Our children are ages 10 months to 12 years old.

There is nothing greater than getting lost for hours in books with your kids. I love the conversations reading starts and the imagination games that come weeks after a new favorite book was read to them.

What a fun thing to begin doing research on. Have fun!!!

We love anything by Sandra Boynton.

Nick's two current favorites are Oh My Oh My Oh Dinosaurs! And, his old favorite standby, But Not the Hippopotamus!

I love the How the Dinosaurs say goodnight and the others as well. There is a book someone just gave me called "The Bears Snore on" and it is great and so is "My Many Colored Days - it talks about feelings. Finally, if your child is over 2 - the book called the Kissing Hand is so great (otherwise it is a little long). I work with speech therapists, and they love books that rhyme - like the Sandra Boyton because they promote language development.

All of the "How do Dinosaurs" books are huge hits in our house--even with my 11 year old; he enjoys the meter of the rhymes and the illustrations (which are beautiful)

Another series that I can't *not* mention is the "No, David!" books by David Shannon.("David Goes to School, etc)

David tries hard, but he's just...naughty. The "No, David!" book has very few words in the text ("No, David!" and "no, David, no!" are repeated a Lot)--but the illustrations completely tell the story. In the end, David is sorry and Mommy loves him and all is well. Since I have a "David"-type of my own, we really enjoy the series.

Oh so many books, so little posting space. Here are a few~

The Three Javelinas (susan lowell) - Southwestern version of the Three Little Pigs

A Bad Case of the Stripes (David Shannon)- theme is to be true to who you are and what you like to do even if it's not the popular thing

Click Clack Moo and the other books by this author (Duck for President, etc) are a MUST HAVE. They are great. Can't remember the author off hand

Anything Dr. Suess

The Hello, Goodbye Window Nortin Juster

A Pocket Full of Kisses (Audrey Penn)

Froggy Gets Dressed (Jonathon London - I think)- great winter story

Ish- Peter Reynolds (excellent, excellent) and also The Dot by Peter Reynolds is great too.

The Aminal - yes it's spelled right - Lorna Balign

OMGosh, I could go on and on! I LOVE kids' books.

When my son was a baby anything by Leslie Patricelli was a huge hit, as were Lucy Cousin's Maisy books.

Now that he's older it's all about Mo Willems and Richard Scarry.

IMHO, the best book ever is "The Jolly Postman" and "The Jolly Christmas Postman". It is a story about all the traditional fable characters...Red riding hood, etc. but they send letters to eachother. The fun part is, that the book actually has the envelopes and letters that you open, unfold and read. VERY cute.

I taught kindergarten and this was always my absolute favorite.

I also like the author...Alma Flor Ada (she was a professor at my grad school). And also Jan Brett's "The Hat" and her other stories.
