Ok we just heard on our agency group about a VERY scary situation going on. I will show you snippets of what we were told.

We just received information that the Attorney General of Guatemala is going to issue an order affecting adoptions in Guatemala. The order requires all adoption cases to have a judicial letter from the
family court authorizing the child to go to foster care. All adoption cases in Guatemala do not have such judicial letter because, according to the attorneys, it is not required by law. According to this order any person who carries a child or any adoption document without the judicial letter will be detained by the authorities (police). All other persons involved in the adoption case (social worker, facilitator, attorney, etc.) will also be detained. The child will be brought to a Guatemalan orphanage.

The Guatemalan adoption attorneys will meet tomorrow in order to discuss the matter and to stop the order. According to the Guatemalan adoption attorneys the Attorney General is exceeding his
functions and misinterpreting the law.


Ok it is all of it except what is agency specific. This is VERY scary Please pray with me that the atty's can get this worked out IN THE BEST INTEREST OF THE CHILDREN!!!!

That's just frickin' great. Of course I'm going tomorrow - I'll probably be thrown in a Guatemalan jail. Or my foster mother and attorney will next week for our social worker interview that we finally got after 6 months. Actually the thought of my attorney in jail. . . hmmmmmmmm. Okay, no, I don't want that either.

Dang, Guatemalan political types - why don't you pass some laws against things like having 6000 people on one teeny red chicken bus. Or, pass a law that keep your law enforcement officers from harassing Americans and foster mothers bringing babies to the Mariott. Or another law that would grant aid to the thousands of indigenous people that were affected by the Hurricanes.

No wonder that country is a mess - these people expend WAY too many resources on nonsense.

Where did this information come from? Just don't believe everything you hear. Not trying to be mean but posts like this will get people upset, possibly for no reason, just like the other week with all of the Hague confusion. Not trying to be mean but just straightforward. Posts like this are very draining and just give us one more thing to worry about.

This is what was given to our agency group by our agency for families of children in process or after process. My reason for posting it was not to scare or drain anyone but to say we all need to pray. I am sorry if it has offended anyone. I will delete the thread if requested.

Please do not delete your post..if you truely believe that your agency group is giving "real" info, then by all means we should all know.
I will pray that this is just a "rumor", or something that has been taken out of context. I would imagine that there are other things they could be working on rather than detaining all of the people involved in adoption..
Maybe we all need to book our flights tomorrow, so that they would have to bring in more people to handle this crazy bunch of adoptive parents
With that aside...I will pray that this will not happen...We all really NEED our children to come home!!!!

There is an e-mail on one of the Yahoo lists that says something similar. There is a mom in Guatemala who is hearing something similar. She is saying that the foster mom has been told not to take the baby out of her house. I hope and pray this is all a big misunderstanding like other things have been.

OK there is a message on Yahoo about a police baby raid at the Marriott? WHAT!? SHe said that she is there right now and they will not bring her the baby because the foster mother can't leave the house. WE LEAVE IN ONE WEEK PEOPLE. What on EARTH is going on now. I am FREAKING here.

I am hoping we find out that this is a whole bunch of NOTHING but you just never know with them. I am hoping this issue resolves itself quickly. It is obviously keeping some people from their children who are currently in Guatemala.

I think I am going to be sick! We have been in process for over a year and a half and just keep running into road blocks. We are so close, i just don't know how much more I can take. Please let this be a rumor.

I agree I am so close to the end that I just dont want any more issues to come up. It feels like it is always something. I sure hope someone can shed light on this tomorrow.
