I am hoping desparately for help. We were out of PGN on 9/12. At this point we do not have a Mixco BC. There are all sorts of delays but our attornies can't seem to tell us why.
After five weeks I am beginning to think this is never going to finish unless I take action. They seem to not have it together in GT. Our agency is frustrated also. Has anyone ever gone to GT and finished up your adoption on your own? We have been submitted for BC as of 9/14. With at least one BC kick out if not two. I would like to obtain BC and get passport and visa by myself from Gt. If you have done this can you post or PM how this takes place? I would so appreciate any help I can get. Also if you have an estimate on how long it will take that would be great. We accepted our daughter's referral at six months and she turns 23 months in just a few weeks. After 17 long months in PGN and six or seven k/os I thought this would the easy part. Thanks in advance Cindi |

I most tell you that you would be taking a risk. However we did it. As soon as we were out & suppose to get Pink our Attorney decided to go on a LONG vacation, so I pick up the phone called my agency let them have a piece of my mind, they conferenced called me in with the Attorney & I asked him the the Agency has paid him all that was due to him. He answered YES, and I told him that he was FIRED! We got in contacted with someone in Guatemala what meet with us at the Airport & helped us finish everything else for little money. However this person I can't get ahold of I've tried there cell phone & home #, because I wanted to see if they can give me any detail on whats going on. You must know its been over a year 1/2 since I was in contact with these people. I wish with all my might I could get a hold of them. Best of Luck to you. I'm sorry I really couldn't help.

I have no words of advice for you but need want to tell you that there has been some trouble lately for people recieving BC from MIxco. We were submitted for or Mixco BC on Aug 31 and waited 5 1/2 weeks for it. Our lawyer never communicated with our agency as to what the problem was. Becky a member of this forum and who also works for an agency mentioned last weekend that there have been some problem gettings some BC's from the civil registry in Mixco. I hope you find the answers that you are looking for and can bring your baby home soon.

I am so sorry this continues to drag on for you!
One thought. I found that our attorney developed much greater motivation when I was in Guatemala or he knew I was coming. Would it be possible for you to go down (maybe even better yet with someone from your agency) and meet with the attorney and see what is going on? Obviously there is the risk of you having to stay for an extended time or leave and come back if there really is a true problem getting the BC. (That was what happened to me. I was told the BC had been requested, so I flew down the day before it was supposed to be ready. Come to find out he hadn't requested it and didn't do so until he knew I was coming. I didn't have childcare at home for that long, so I had to leave and fly down again 2 weeks later.) Does your agency have anyone in Guatemala they can hook you up with that can get you through what is left to be done if you can get the paperwork from the attorney? Considering what you have been through so far, I would be putting the pressure on them to get down there themselves and find out what is going on. Good luck!

We also had problems getting the BC from Mixco. We got out of PGN on 8/16 and we did not get the pink slip till this Tuesday 10/17. Two weeks after the approval our agency told us that the civil registry was requiring the signature of the birthmother. The first time the agency arranged for the mother to go sign apparently the registry official was too busy to see her, so they had to arrange for the birth mother to come back again. This whole back-and -orth added about 4-5 weeks to this process. To be honest, while the civil registry was not cooperating, I am not certain that the agency representatives were working ardeously to resolve this. The effort level appeared to be once per week. I had started to wonder whether you can change agencies this late in the game when we finally got our call.
Good luck on getting your child home. |
