OT: Does anyone else's baby/toddler......

Hate to sleep under a blanket?
It is already getting down to aruond 40 at night where we live (SC) and Chloe hates cover.
Every morning she is out from under the blanket and if I was to try to put a piece of cover over her through the night she would wake up. Not about to do that if you saw my previous post we are at night 2 sleeping through the night again.
I have her in footed pj's but it will get very cold soon and just wondering if anyone else has this problem and what was your solution.

Thanks for the advice!!!!!!!!!

my daughter also refuses to use a blanket as she tosses and turns alot in her sleep. As it gets colder I am going to layer her as my old house tends to get cold.

Both of my sons hate to sleep under any covers. They are ages 7 and 4. They both have been this way since they were infants. If you try to even gently lay a blanket over them they are instantly awake and kicking it off. We have usually try to keep the house a bit warmer at night in the winter than we usually would. Otherwise when I go in their rooms to check on them they are curled up in a little ball freezing to death!! They would rather be cold than have a blanket. We, too, use the footed pj's.

It has not happened to me, but I babysat for kids at one time who hated blankets. Here is what their parents did:

dressing for bed in freezing weather: undershirts, longjohns, socks, blanket sleeper.
The room: a small heater placed up on the dresser, that was only turned for the first hour after the kids went to bed, then turn off and the door shut.

4 hours later the room was still warm. When mom and dad got home for the night, they put a light blanket on the kids, but they said it was always on the floor in the morning.

I guess I should point out that the mother was from Norway and she said that it was normal when she was growing up not be under blankets, so she was raising her kids the way she was raised.

My kids are 10 and 3, both still sleep with their crocheted blankies, but not over them. They cuddle them. We just have to crank up the heat in their rooms.

My kids have always refused when they were very young. I just try to bundle them up, footie pj's and undershirt, maybe even socks under the footie pj's and then keep the room warm.

Good luck!

I understand your situation. Since we brought our son home last year he has refused to sleep with a blanket. I will cover him at bedtime, however, when I go check on him the covers are laying on the floor. He doesn't wake up when I put the covers back on him, however, within five minutes they are on the floor again.

Being that the weather can get quite bitter during the winter months here in Ohio I will put him in footed pajamas and bring him into our bed in hopes of him staying under the covers. That doesn't work either. I will wake up in the middle of the night and he is laying on top of the covers.

I did buy him Lighting McQueen and Thomas the Tank sleeping bags for Christmas, two of his favorite characters. Hopefully, because of this he will stay in the sleeping bag. However, I think it is safe to say that these two will be on the floor.

Sorry I didn't have an answer, but I do understand what you are going through. Maybe the sleeping bag idea will work!!! That and a $300 gas bill!!

Mine won't stay under covers at all...he's a kicker. Layer her up and put one of those warm blanket sleepers on her...put her in two if you need to!

None of our babies ever slept under covers. My 10 year old daughter still sleeps without a blanket unless she wakes up in the night cold and pulls it over her. We just always kept the babies in footed pjs. We live in FL, so I don't worry much about the winter months. I worry more about the summer when my husband turns the air down to the 60's, and our bedroom is like a freezer!

Thanks for the suggestions.
I will try layering her because we can't have it to warm in her room because the asthma.
Poor babies, they come home to the Good Ol USA and think they are through with the 5 layers of clothes and whatta ya know, Mommy goes to layering her too.

I'm glad others are having this problem, as well!! Alistair refuses to use a blanket. Period. I can get one on him without his waking up but as soon as he rolls over, he'll wake up screaming. I don't even bother, anymore. I'm trying to cover him for nap time so that when we transition into his big boy bed in a few mos, MAYBE he won't hate us for it!! We just keep the house WARM at night so he doesn't freeze.

We, of course, now have to kick off our blankets and use the ceiling fan to sleep!! In Kansas it's only 38 degrees. Sure, a fan makes sense!!

My daughter won't stay covered either. When it gets really cold, I do layers under her footie pjs. At our old house her room had two exterior walls and was the furthest from the furnace so it got really chilly sometimes, so we often closed the vents to different rooms to get more heat into her room.

Our house gets cold at night as well. We have a 22 month old and twin 7 month olds. We put footed pj's on them (as well as socks underneath) and then we have small floor heaters in their rooms. We turn the heaters on when we put them to bed (7:30) and usually turn them off about midnight and it stays pretty warm. We did this all winter last year and we'll do the same this year. It works well for us.

Shawn kicks his blanket off a lot too. He's been sleeping with me because he is teething and I am constantly covering him back up. I was suprised the other night when it was cold to catch him pulling the blanket over himself. The thing that drives me nuts is he will not sleep with socks and refuses to wear footed pjs. His feet are cold every morning.

Yep!! Actually, when we first got home she'd sleep under her blanket and quilt no problem. Now, first thing, she kicks both off and puts her feet up on them-- I think she's getting a two year old streak . Since we don't keep the heat on at night here, this is what I do: keep her bedroom door shut (keep some of the heat in there) and then dress her in a tight-ish one piece sleeper then a blanket sleeper and socks if it doesn't have feet. That seems to do it and allows her to sleep without waking up from cold.
