171H and second adoption
Our 171 H form is still good for another 6 months or so. We were told that could get us through DNA and would be ok. My question is what happens if it expires after that? Do we get another one and if so shouldnt we just go ahead now for a new one? Anyone having adopted a second time have any advice on how to handle new paperwork?
Thanks!

When we started our second adoption, we were told to go ahead and get another one. We only had a few months left and they were afraid it could expire before we were able to complete the adoption. Unfortunately, we live in the ATL so the USCIS office is running almost 3 months behind. I'm glad we went ahead and filed another one.

We too started a second adoption with a 171H that was to expire this October. We applied for a new one in August and got our updated 171H at the end of September. They were able to do the DNA with the old 171H, but in order to complete the adoption we needed to renew it. We also needed a homestudy update.
I would check with your local USCIS office to see how long applications are taking and when you should apply for a new one.

Thank you both very much. So basically I need to fill out a new I600A and submit it?
We are hoping to have all paperwork complete before we accept a referral this time...so there is not the rush like last time.

We are waiting on a new one before accepting a referral. All our documents are with the Philly USCIS office right now and I'm hearing 3-4 weeks. We are currently 4th in line at our agency so it should all work out!
Good Luck to you. ![]()
