Have you ever felt that your referral was always meant to be a part of your family? Are there any strange coincidences that tie him / her to you?

Here's our story...

Our two bio sons share birthdays with other extended family members. My eldest shares his birthday with his cousin. My youngest son shares his birthday with his great grandfather. When we received the referral of Baby D., I immediately recognized the birthday! She was born the same day as my Father-in-Law! Unfortunately, he passed away 5 1/2 years ago and is unable to share in this special day. However, I know there is a special guardian angel up above keeping an eye on her!

I think most of us here have felt it was meant to be t one time or another durring the process!

I also think it's truely wonderful that you know who your babies guardian angel is!

I feel my referral itself was random chance. But since accepting this little boy would be my son, I've certainly looked for ways to make a connection to him, to bond with him and make him a part of my family, when all I have in reality are some photos and medical records. I've never even been able to afford a visit. But I think it's natural to try to find connections and to make connections between us and these far away children we so desperately want to bring home.

My daughter was born a week before my husband's birthday. She came home from the hospital on my husband's birthday. She was his greatest birthday gift.

Yeah, it's meant to be. There have been so many signs that it's meant to be that I can't even comprehend them all right now, much less share them. Someday, I will.

But, yeah, it's meant to be in every sense of the word, and I know it to be true.

We received our daughter's referral just as we were leaving for dinner to celebrate my birthday. What a wonderful present! Juliana was born Apr. 12. The daughter we lost to stillbirth at 23 weeks was due on Apr. 14. I'd long dreamed of having a daughter to share my birth month.

My son's birthday is 6 months and 4 days from mine. When I received my referral, her birthday was 3 months and 2 days after his birhtday...hence, she was born smack-dab in the middle of us. It is a sign! Jenny

We have had a couple of things that made me think it was totally meant to be.

Before we received his referral we were talking about names. We both really liked Alexander but decided to wait and see what his birth name was. Well - his birth name wasn't Alexander, but he has a full brother who's middle name is Alexander. I thought that was pretty cool.

We then found out that his birth dad is a traveling musician. I am a musician (not by trade). I play piano, sing, play a few instruments.

The coolest we just found out. I devoured the family court report as soon as we got it. Alex's birth dad's name is the same as my FIL.....and it's not exactly a common name!! I thought that was SO cool.

When I got the DNA results I was reading the form and thought they made a mistake on my birthdate since the year was wrong. I then realized it wasn't my birthdate on the form but my son's birthmothers. We share the same birthday...19 years apart.

Another coincendence was that on the visit trip I stayed in Room 317 at the Marriott and I found out I got out of PGN on March 17th and then I got Pink on March 30th and my room number for pick up was 330. Weird, huh?

I've shared this here before but I don't mind sharing again.

Jacob was born the exact same minute of the day as my dh - 11:40 pm on the dot!
He was also born on Feb 18 and Celeste was born Dec 18... my high school volleyball uniform number was #18, dh had our first date on July 18, 1996, we were engaged on Oct 18, 1997, if you add my dob together you get 18, and if you add dh's dob together you get 18!! On New Year's Eve - just 9 days after we got Celeste's referral, we went to play pool with some friends and when we got there, the table that was reserved for us? Table #18 of course!

Other fun "coinky-dinks"...

Although we used different agencies, Jacob and Celeste were born only 30 miles apart!Their baby pictures look so similar, it is eerie! We have pics of Jacob as an infant and we've had quite a few people ask if it is Celeste! The two of them have bio-siblings, but they look more like each other than either of them look like their bio-sibs!

Jacob was born in February - the same month as my dh's sister and his dad... Celeste was born in December - the same month as MY sister and MY dad!

Jacob's Embassy appt was on Nov 7th, Celeste's was June 7th...

Celeste came home during the month of June - which was the month that her brother was featured on the Guatadopt.com calendar!

And their personalities fit so well into our family that I can't imagine having any other children besides these two!

I think that God gives us little signs to remind us that these children are meant to be ours. I mention the "coincidences" although I don't think they are just chance things - I believe they are all little "love notes" from God, reminding us that He planned for them to be our children from the very beginning.

Our neat connections are:

*DH and I had narrowed it down to two names - Lucas and Samuel. We hadn't told anyone. The birth mother named him Samuel. We were just floored! I later found my grandma's Bible (I was very close to her and lost her 2 years ago) - she had underlined the paragraph in the book of Samuel about "I prayed for this child and the Lord answered my prayer." That blew me away again!

*He was born on May 23. He is right in between my 2 favorite guys (DH's bday is May 13 and my dad's is May 28).

*We got his initial referral information on Father's Day.

I just have two small ones. Addyson's birthdate is one day after mine and the same day that we first appiled to the agency to begin the adoption- 1/19/2006

We got our referral when our son was about eight days old. When I tried to think back about what I was doing on the day of his birth, I realized I was in a flea market and had bought a small carved animal from a man that I was so drawn to because he was from Guatemala. When I got the baby's birth certificate he was born at the exact hour (central time) that I was buying this little present for him. His first birthday present. I took this as a "sign".

Right after we accepted our referral a new person started working in my office. It didn't take us long to figure out she had a little brother with the same name and the same birthdate as our son... it made me feel like it was meant to be Now that we're home our kiddo is a great sleeper and is PASSIONATE about sucking the second and third fingers on his left hand... just like I me when I was a baby!! My mom just shakes her head and smiles, since she sees the similarities even more than I.
