Cool Let's Play - Can you beat this stupid comment???

Since I just got what I consider to be one of the most ridiculous comments ever, I though it would be fun to play who has gotten the stupidest comment.

Here's mine:
OK, sad to say this actually came from a blood relative, my Aunt. To give a little background, I have 2 Black and Tan dachshunds. My Aunt said "Now you have a kid that matches your dogs - Black and Tan."

When I said how rude it was she just joked and said she was commenting on Addison having Tan skin and Black hair. She just didn't get how terribly stupid and rude she was being. How can someone be that stupid? I guess I should be more upset than I am. Instead, I am a bit more depressed that we came from the same Gene pool. Maybe it's a good thing that I didn't go the biological route.

OK, I want to hear some more from you guys. Can you beat this one?

I think it was kind of funny. I wouldn't be offended.

I used to be told my hair was the same color as my collie's. And it was. I thought that was a compliment since she had beautiful hair. I don't think it is uncommon for people and their children to be compared to their pets. I don't see any insult in it.

I am sure she didn't mean anything by it but she wins the "OPEN MOUTH, INSERT BOTH FEET" award.

my bio daughters are multi racial. When I was about 8 months pregnant with daughter #1 mom says "What color will the baby be?" My friend always quick on a comment said "We are hoping for purple !"

Let's see...I've had a bunch of really nice comments lately and she's not even home yet!!!

I was at a Mom's to Mom sale last Saturday and was buying some girl clothes from a woman...she said "Oh, do you have a girl...I said yes...my friend with me said...she's adopting from Guatemala...the lady replied...oh...that is so great you can do that...I could never love someone else's baby...I was so shocked and disgusted that I didn't have a reply...I was just bummed I had already paid for her stuff or I would have left it on her table and walked away!!!

Also...my Aunt and a REALLy close friend of mine...when they found out I'm going to get our baby next week replied Oh that is so great!!! Now you'll never have to go there again!!! I replied with something like...we won't have to but plan on going many times in the future. Both of their replies were...why would you want to go back there? Maybe because our daughter was born there!!! That shut them up!!!

People are very ignorant!!!!!

I would have not been offended by that comment from your aunt...but then I don't know your aunt and I did not hear how it was said.

We have a beautiful black and tan dog (Rottweiller mutt) who we love and spoil very much, and I always joke with DH that him and the baby and the dog all have the same coloring (Tan skin, black hair) and I'm the oddball who looks different (pasty white skin, auburn hair).

That is a crazy comment from your aunt!

I admit it, I'd be offended also at that comment. I wish I could laugh some things off but I am sensitive, overly so at times.

The silliest one I have heard is:

Does he speak English?

We were asked this about our son who came home at 3 and our son who came home at 7mos. OK, a baby doesn't really speak anything and a 3yo that lives in El Salvador will speak Spanish!

No offense taken, just seems like sometimes people don't think things through.

I have had people ask me about their 'real' Moms which I find highly offensive, but they were so oblivious that I just ignored it.

My best comment is really a toss up between two that I have already told on here.

1) My mil telling me that we should NOT tell Addyson that she is adopted and we are terrible people of we do. (mind you myother children are blonde hair and blue eyes, you don't think she'll suspect?)

2) When I was speakign with a lady about both of us having three children and adding one more. I said about us going for four (she was trying to get pregnant) and she said "Oh, but you're adopting, so that doesn't count." So apparently when you are telling someone how many kids you have, don't tell them the adopted ones because they don't count.

It'd be a tossup between those two.

I would have been upset by that comment too. How could it possibly be considered polite to compare someone's child to a dog?

Here is mine:
My husband was talking to an older lady from our church about our kids. He told her that Jayden is from Guatemala and she said "Oh, so he's one of those Hispanic types?" (she was incredulous). When he told her that Lillian is from Liberia, she said "So she'll be BLACK?!?" (she was obviously horrified at the thought). Then, she said "Are you going to adopt a white kid too so that you'll have a real international family?" DH said "No, probably not" and then got out of there as quickly as he could.

I do want to note after this that most of the people from our church have been amazingly supportive and excited about our adoptions. There are just a few of the older members who still have problems with the idea of trans-racial adoption.

Oh, I am so glad to find this thread on here since I just got done replying to an e-mail from my brother that was infuriating.
He was responding to an e-mail I sent to all my friends and family about UNICEF and not trick or treating for them. I will quote you part of his response.
"Maybe they are concerned about people having Babies just to make money off of the adoptions."
I told him that is the same thing as saying low income people in the U.S. are having babies just to get more welfare. Maybe a few people do it but that is not the issue. Education is the issue and if UNICEF wants to help Guatemalans then spend the money on EDUCATION! Obviosly he did not go to the link for guatadopt which explained it better.

I got something similar to that from a neighbor who is college educated (believe it or not). Before Addison was home (I guess she would have been about 4 Months), she said "are they speaking English to her?" When I said no, she said "they need to be teaching her English. She will be too confused when she comes home." When I politely explained that Guatemala was a 3rd world country and they didn't really have English speaking tutors for 4 month olds, she just looked at me, she just said they need to be speaking English to her. She just didn't get it.

You can't help but laugh at some of these comments. I try not to take anything to seriously. I wasn't too offended by my aunt, just more amzazed that she would make such a dumb comment. That being said if someone made some of the rude comments that some of you guys have listed here I would have gone off on them. I tend to be very quick temptered. You just don't mess with my loved ones!

Thanks for posting these comments! It makes me feel like I am not alone. I really love getting a chuckle from reading about how stupid some people can be!

My mom, bless her heart, is really supportive of my adopting Grace, and is TOTALLY in love with Gracie. She went on the visit trip with me, I LIVE with her currently while my house is up for sale in another state, and she tells everyone/shows Grace's pic that she has her first granddaughter.

Ok, so with that said...I apparently have not taught my mom more appropriate adoption "lingo". While at the Marriott, in the baby lounge, we were sitting speaking with another adoptive family and my mom inadvertently referred to Grace's birthmom in conversation as her "real mom". Oops. She apologized immediately and said she wasn't up on her adoption lingo but it was still embarrassing! She didn't mean anything by it and it was really just a slip of the tongue. I hold no grudge :-)

Hilarious! I think I'll have to make a call to Guatemala and request English tutoring for Jayden. I'm sure they'll get right on that!

Just yesterday I got a comment.
My husband and I were at the mall with our 21 month old son and we saw a married couple my husband knows. Their daughter is thinking of adopting from Guatemala. So the woman asked me, "Did you get to pick your son or was he assigned to you? The reason I'm asking is because his skin is so light and some of them over there just look so. . . indigenous (Crinkling her face up). . . or Indian or something. . . so I was wondering how you got to get a light skinned one."

Needles to say that is the rudest thing anyone has said about "that light skinned one we got" ALSO KNOWN AS OUR SON!!! Hello, are you clueless or what? I am sure she did not mean to be mean but a grown woman in her right mind who is a mother of a girl thinking of adopting might have invested a little bit more thought before asking me such a question.
