...when you get OUT does that mean the birth mother has also signed the adoption decree or is this a separate step ?
Also, how long is a BC from Villa Nueva taking these days ? Thanks -Ran

The birthmother must sign a fourth time after PGN...although many attorenys have power of attorney at that point and so sign for her (which I think is kinda screwy).
I have no idea on the BC part. I hope its quick though!

our birthmom did sign off on the day after we got out but we did not get a call to tell us that step was done.
check out the DATABASE: birth certificate Timeline by city thread for your BC question. Search for it and you should find it.

Just agreeing with the other posters: getting out of PGN and the birthmom signoff are two different steps. You may not be notified about the signoff -- I only found out when I asked about it. I believe it was in the "weekly report" sent by the attorney, not on its own like the big PGN news.
Natalie -- I totally agree with you. I am actually surprised that the attorneys can have a POA for the final signoff. Seems to defeat the purpose a bit. But in some cases it may be the only way, so it is good that it is an option.

I agree that it is something I don't care for either. I suspect it is something that is abused by attorneys far more than we know. That said, the attorney did have one for our son's birthmother. He was relinquished into foster care at birth and was almost 1 year old at the time we accepted his referral. It took over two months for his birthmother to come in for DNA after authorization. We were given all sorts of stories about why, that after reading the social worker's report, were obviously not true. I suspect that she was either missing or did not want to come in. I can't blame her. I am sure she was trying to move on with her life and it was terribly painful to have to go in for the DNA. She did end up signing a POA at the DNA testing. I just pray she wasn't coerced into it and it was what was truely best for her.

Villa Nueva BC is less than a week.
The final sign off can be done by the attorney, if the ** has given her POA, as my ** did from the start because it was too hard for her to get back in town to sign anymore papers. My daughter is from there.Last edited by purplecat : 10-13-2006 at 03:28 PM. |
