Misspelling on Home Study

Hi Knowers-of-all-things ,

We got our finished home study in the mail today. DH's doctor's name was misspelled. They sent this to me after they forwarded a copy to my UCIS office and also sent it in for state authentication (they certify this for us and send it to the consulate). They never emailed or sent a copy for me to review.

My question is, is this a big deal? Will I get a kick-out for it? They have his Dr's name already in our dossier from the medical statement he signed. So PGN will either think he has to Dr's with similar names or they will note the misspelling. POOP!

After waiting for what felt like forever, I'm pretty bummed. What should I do?

Send it back!

I don't really know but, it sounds like you better ask that the HS be fixed and then sent agin to all of the above with a cover letter.

From what I understand, no one but the HS agency sees that particular dr's form. Now, I suppose if the same dr does the form for your dossier they might connect them, I'm not sure. I'd check with your agency, but I'd think the worst case scenario would be that only your placement agency would need a fixed copy of the HS. USCIS wouldn't have anything to do with it. The 171H doesn't say anything that was in your HS.

It's kinda anticlimatic. There is a box checked saying the approval was cabled to GC and then another box checked stating how many children you are approved for.

I don't think there's much to worry about, but check with the placement agency

I wouldn't worry about the USCIS part, but I would probably make them change it (or take it out all together) for my dossier. My homestudy that went to USCIS was actually just her first draft, so there were lots of little mistakes in there. The homestudy that went with our dossier was gone over with a fine toothed comb by our agency who wanted many changes. She took out the doctors names and just made blanket statements that we had gone to the doctor and were healthy. She had also mentioned our pets being vaccinated and healthy and our agency made her take that out of course too.

My GUESS is that it will probably not be a big deal in PGN. By the time it is translated to spanish, you would not BELIEVE the errors in it. And as you say, they may just think it is someone with a similar name.

All that said, I think I still would have them get a corrected copy out to you TODAY for your dossier. Better safe than sorry. It is much easier to get a new copy now, than be dealing with it with a k/o and whatever kind of proof they decide they want.

I definelty would worry about USCIS.

I think I'd definately have the spelling error fixed.

Can you contact your HS agency and see what can be done?

Ours also had errors in it!!! Very aggravating!!! I do not understand why they don't let you proof read a copy before sending it on. Among multiple errors my DH name was mis-spelled YIKES. I had to have it re-done. Get this when I get the new copy, the Notary Stamp from the Agency is smudged and you can't read the date and by that time I had accepted my referral
Have them fix it for the dossier. It is not worth the chance of getting kicked.

Our SW always emails us a copy to proof read before the final so that we can make any changes.. However, I really don't think it's that big of a deal.. I'd ask your placement agency what they think.. Like a poster above said, this is going to be translated into spanish, and you'd be surprised the mistakes that are made.. I remember last year, someone posted that their homestudy said they was something like a spiritual advisor, and she was actually a financial advisor!!

Ours had many errors also (my name was even misspelled in one draft). The first draft was sent to USCIS before we even received a copy. Four drafts later our home study still contained some minor errors, but our case manager was not concerned. She said it was not a big deal because it would be translated into Spanish. I hope you get it worked out!

LOL! Yes, the translated homestudy and the social workers report from Family Court are a hoot! Genders change, jobs change, dates don't make any sense. For as picky as PGN is, it is crazy the stuff you find in your final paperwork.
