Anyone start the process with a bio baby?

Just wondering if I'm all alone! It seems everyone's bio kids are all over 1 years old. Am I the only nut that would start the process with a 4.5 month old???

Come on! Someone has to be as nutty as me!!!

Babies...

I have three bio kids -- a 10 yo boy, 7 yo girl, and a 14 month old boy (who was 8 months old when we applied with our agency). While he is a bit older than your little one, our adopted daughter will probably be about a year younger than him when she finally comes home (I am thinking spring or early summer of 2007). I think it will be great having my two youngest so close in age -- they will be great buddies!

Actually, I think those of us with MUCH older kids are probably the nutty ones! My daughters are 22 months apart and have always been and always will be BEST friends! I hope you have the same experience.

On the other hand, an 11 year divide between #2 and #3 has been harder than expected. Initially, the girls thought of our son as this "cute little doll." Now however...the cute little doll is busy destroying their stuff and he isn't always so fun!

The issues I have had with this from a parenting perspective is that while teens are growing up they still lack common sense about safety issues! They leave their razors on the side of the tub and medication on the counter! Makes me nuts. Was easier to have them all around the same age.

We started looking at agencies when our bio son was 8 months old...it just took me forever (10 months) to decide on our agency! I wish now that I had acted faster so they would be closer in age.

It looks like if everything goes as planned....my two are going to be 10 months apart (does anything goes as planned though?!) I am hoping more for about a year! If our third came home at 9 months, then my second would be 19 months old.

I don't think you are nutty, just going with what is right for you! Enjoy.

Well not with this last adoption but I did before our now 9 year old DD was born. I was surfing the net with the laptop on my belly. They are very close in age 12 months. Adoption can take a long time and if you have a strong prefference for the children to be close in age I do not think it is too early to start. Anna

age difference

I agree that maybe those of us with older children are the crazy ones ! ha!ha! But then I have always been a bit crazy anyway ! I have an almost 16 and an almost 19 year old and I am an older mom and people look at me like I am crazy ! Why would I want to go get a baby ? I am sure I am going to have people ask if he is my grandson ! ha!ha!

10 months apart you say? Well, I think that sounds like an eternity because my first two kids are only 47 minutes apart! I say "go for it!!!!" you are not nutty at all--and then as soon as you get your baby, start applying right away again for #3--pack 'em in--the more the merrier!

Three of my friends have ended up having twins when their first baby wasn't even 2 yet. Three kids under the age of 2 is most definitely possible--it just makes you tough!

When we signed woth our agency our son was 9 months old. We had been talking about adopting since he was only a few months old. We really wanted the boys to be a year apart...but our process too MUCH longer than we thought it would and they are a little further apart...I'm sure it will work out fine. So no you are not alone!! I love having kids close in age (my girls are only 2 mins apart...although my "oldest" still likes to pull rank).

Well I didn't plan things the way they worked out, but I'm thrilled with God's timing.

We put our dossier together and submitted it to our agency in the spring of 2003, but because of the Hague did not get a referrral that summer.

I got pregnant while we were waiting, and on the day of my baby shower, we got the call that Hope had been born and if we wanted her, we had 24 hrs. to pick a name for the birth certificate. We brought Hope home six months later to the day. Our bio daughter was four months, so they are 10 weeks apart!
