The Marriot?

For those of you that has been there, Is the Marriot close to the Embassy?I think that is the only way they will allow us to stay there. They really want us to stay at another hotel, But we want to stay at the marriot.Thank you!!!

Which other hotel do they want? Most of the big chain hotels are located a few blocks from each other. Marriott, Westin, Clariion, Raddison, and others. I havent been to the embassy yet but I understand that they are about 10 minute drive away.

Why does your agency care how far away from the embassy you stay? could you offer to pay for someone's cab fare if that's an issue?

We walked to the Embassy from the Marriott on one of our visits. It was maybe a mile? It was walkable, but definitely not with a baby (busy roads). We will take a cab to the Embassy if we are staying at the Marriott on our pick up trip.

I know there is a hotel next to the Embassy, but I can't remember the name.

The Marriott is the furthest hotel away from the Embassy and I think the most expensive. The La Casa Grande is right next to the Embassy and is a nice Guatemalan hotel. I think people get a little scared about not staying at a US chain hotel but the Casa Grande has a wonderful staff and they take very good care of you and your baby and are willing to help with anything you need. I hope this helps.

I dont' know how far it is but if you want to stay there, tell your agency that that is definitely where you want to stay and ask them to call your attorney and see if he has a problem with it. My agency had heard the rumor about people being harrassed in front of the Marriott, so they called all of the attorneys that the work with (8-10 of them) and ALL of the attorneys said it was perfectly safe and they hadn't heard any bad stories about the Marriott.
You are the one paying for this trip, so it should be your decision. The Marriott is such a huge hotel, I don't think there is anyway they would allow cops or whom ever to be harrassing anyone from their hotel. Just my opinion, but on the other hand, I've heard that there are many other awesome hotels. The San Carlos is supposedly a very authentic Guatmalan bed & breakfast type place.
