Question Baby Bjorn Question????????????

Hello All fellow Baby Bjorn owners,

Okay I just got mine that I ordered from a common Auction Site,

Do they come in different sizes????
As you all know I DO NOT have my baby yet So me and DH attempted to try it out with one of my Porcelin Baby Dolls(it is a fairly large doll) probably about the size of a 8-10 month old.

anyways The babys head is smashed into our chests, if it was a real baby it would suffocate!!!

I tried to turn the baby outwards and the Head of the Baby hits us right at the chin area is this normal???

Or is there something we are doing wrong?

I hope we figure it out with your help before we get our little one home LOL

Maybe the doll is too stiff, being porcelin and all-- have you tried a stuffed animal? Also, they really can't easily be used for very big babies. I think the weight limit on the one I had was 26# (think they are all the same) and both my sister and I have found that they really aren't all that great after about 20-25#. Baby's legs start getting longer and tangled up in yours, etc. Do remember to fold the top part of the front down when going forward. Forward was the only way my sister's baby would travel. Mine only liked to face me-- it was quite snug, but I undid the buttons on the side of the top (no problem holding their own head up by 6-7mos) and that gave her some breathing room.

Hi Brandee,
They actually do come in a bigger size. My husband and I are both pretty tall (I'm almost 6 feet and he's taller than that), so the regular Bjorn really didn't seem to fit correctly. They make an XL size that has straps that are a few inches longer, and that made a huge difference for us. Since our little one is not so little himself, this has been a great solution.

When we bought one, about 8 years ago, there was a tall one available. We bought that one as DH is rather tall. That is all I remember about size. Anna

Yes, the regular size did not work for us at all - both DH and I are not regular sized obviously. The XL size was perfect and did make a difference!

Your baby will be facing away from you. Isabella came home at 5 months and was facing outward. Make sure you fold the flap down. Definitely, it sounds like the doll is sitting a little high up. You probaby want to loosen up the straps a bit. I think the real baby weight will weigh it down a bit and help the baby sit lower. It is kind of awkward at first, but with a little practice will be great! Isn't it fun to start planning and practicing?!

Brandee - I used the regular size Baby Bjorn carrier with Sabrina during our visit trip last month. And it worked just fine - but then I'm only 5'4, and she's a little peanut. I practiced with a teddy bear before the trip. DH thought I was nuts

You might try playing with the straps, but as the other posters said maybe you need the one for taller folks.

We carried our 9.5-11.5 month old twins in our Bjorns all the time. Play with the straps (both shoulder and the babies crotch strap) to see if you can loosen things up. Good luck!

Baby Bjorn has instructions on their website on how to use and adjust the carriers, in case you need help. My dh used the original Bjorn on our visit trips (he is 5'11" tall, 240 lbs) with no problems. Our son only wanted to face out. He was 3 months the first trip and 5 months the second.

I can also send you a copy of the paper instructions, if you need them-- Send me a pm.

For those of you who like a Bjorn-type carrier, you might want to try a Mei Tai. It is an Asian carrier that can be used in the front or the back and the baby faces you either way. Because the baby is closer to your body it is easier on your back. Also, the baby's legs are in a sitting position, which is supposed to be better for their hips (some doctors have concern that the strap between the legs on the Bjorn is not good for the baby's development).

Thinking of getting one on auction site...

I am little (5'1") and don't want the active version.

Can anyone offer advice on what to bid on? There are several "city" versions in black I have seen..

Thanks!

I'm not a small person (not really tall - just fat with a fairly large chest ) I just bought the "Baby Carrier Air" version today. I tried it on when I got home, and it actually fit me. (the straps were almost to the end, but it was pretty comfortable)

I haven't tried a baby in it yet, but I'm hopeful.
