Referral Birth Certificate Question
We just received a referral for a beautiful girl on 9/21 and we are still waiting on her birth certificate. I was wondering if anyone else has encountered this before because I have never read about it on here. We cannot do the POA until we get it. After asking 3 times about the b. cert. they said that some regions take longer to get, which I know is true at the end of the process after you exit PGN, but how about the begining.
Thanks gwen

bumping up for the more informed, but I do know that it takes several weeks in this country. Also, we got all our DD's info on DOL #5 (overnight) which included a BC...a miracle for Guat City which couldn't get her new BC issued in less than 12 weeks.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm
Great question!! We received our referral in March and still haven't seen his birth certificate. I have asked too many times to count. We are in PGN so I am confused as to why I was able to move forward without it and you cannot. We also visited in July prior to DNA, makes me wonder..........

Maybe what your agency means is that THEY need the birth certificate. They can't type anything on the POA until they have it, so maybe it's not for you they are waiting on it, but for themselves.

I don't think my agency had the birth cert. I know we never got it. But they had the POA ready for me and my husband to sign in 2 days. It sounds like all agency's do things different.

So interesting how everything is always different. Once we accepted our referral we received her BC as well as info on Birthmother and foster family just a few days later.
Have you asked your agency when they think they may get it or why it is taking so long?

With us the referrals were pressented with a BC. Would this also mean it would take longer to get the BC later? I hope you get it soon. Congratulations upon your referral. Anna

This happened to me with my first adoption. It took them 6 weeks after referral to get the birthcertificate and get the POA to me...with no explanation why. I have since figured out that it basically meant that the agency gave me the referral before they had any real information about the baby at all...I had no medical info, no pictures etc. It was not a good experience for me, since every time I called it was "oh it will be coming any day now" and yet, for 6 weeks it never came! Then again, I am still waiting for the promised pictures and medical updates from that agency too and my daughter is now 4 and has been home for over 3 years...

Same thing happened to me. My agency did not recieve our son's BC until he was 6 weeks old. I really don't know why it took so long. But, if you look at my timeline, I brought my DS home at 6 months old so it really didn't slow us down.
Good Luck,

Thanks everyone for your help. We do have a picture, some medical, and the birth mother's medical sheet. She was born in Guatemala City. I guess I think that they gave us her as a refferal before they received all of her information. Well of course we are in love with her so it doesn't really matter much now.
I am going to try to post a picture soon. Thanks again.

We were told that we would get a birth certificate for our referral in early August (DS born 07.18.06), but we've never received it. We were able to do the POA just fine. We had DS full name as well as the Bmom's and all of the relevant information.
