No News on Adoption in today's Guat Papers

I was unaware of the executive order issue that so many people are concerned about, so I did a quick search of a few Guatemalan newspapers. Nothing on the front page, and I even did a search of the word adopcion, and didn't come up with anything recent. It might be that the search engine did not like the fact that I don't know how to put an accent over the letter "i", it might be that the search engines don't do really recent stories, but I found a number of stories from April, and not even one about the big meeting at the US embassy.. was that yesterday or the day before?

I know nothing about the letters that people have gotten from agencies, but I would suspect that if the Guatemalan First Lady were about to do something big, it would probably be in the local press.

Look, Guatemala is going to have to make changes to its internal procedures. It might be tough on people like me who are just starting the process. There may be delays while they are sorting out the new buerocracies. My big fear is that I pay a fortune to a lawyer, and then the lawyers are taken out of the picture. I cannot imagine that those of you who are deep into the process are going to be effected by any of the changes, if they even happen soon. In all honesty, I cannot imagine that the government of Guatemala would do anything to jeoporadize adoptions. I hate to say this, but adoption brings a lot of money into the country. The lawyers are getting rich off of us. Guatemala City hotels are overbooked???? No one went to Guatemala City hotels a decade ago. Drivers have jobs. Tour guides. Foster families have extra income. How many of you come home with crafts or jewelry? Adoption is good for the economy, and they are not going to throw it away.

I may be wrong, but I think I'm not.

Quesita I agree with you ! Guatemalan government is not stupid ! They are making big money from the rich lawyers to the lowly foster moms off Americans who are so desperate for a baby that they will pay $$$$ ! They are going to do whatever it takes to continue this process ! The process may slow down or may have some slow downs but I do not think the process will stop ! And not only will this affect the economy but they will also have all these babies to deal with ! These women are not going to stop having babies, the poverty is not going to stop and they are still going to need homes for this babies ! I am sure this will be resolved !
