We are thrilled to announce our referral! He was born on September 23 and he's beautiful! We're totally in love!!!

Just one question about his size-- he's 6 pounds 12 ounces, 50 cm in length, and his head circumference is 32.5 cm. His head circumference looks about 5 percentile on Dr. Montiel's chart. His length and weight seem to be a higher percentile. Any advice would be greatly appreciated-- we love him very much and just want to make sure he's healthy.

Hello! Congratulations! Here is what I found on the University of Virginia medical school website:

"head circumference - the distance around the baby's head (head circumference is normally about 1/2 the baby's body length plus 10 cm)."

Based on this, your referral's measurements seem just fine! Good luck.

Ok I am done going crazy trying to figure out the terminology you all are using! What is the process for a Guatamalan adoption? From start to finish how long does it take to get your babies home once you have accepted the referral. Thank you from an interested lurker.

Congratulations on your referral!!!

Our son was born on 8/23 and we got his medical update from 9/25 today. His head circumference was only 33.2cm on 8/28, but is now 36.7cm. He was in the 5th percentile at 5 days old, but is now in the 50th percentile. You have to remember that Dr. Montiel's chart starts at 1 month old, not birth, so it's likely babies will be on the 5th percentile before 1 month old. Also, our son is in the 25th percentile for head circumference and length compared to US babies--pretty good size for a Guate baby as he was only 5lbs 10oz at 5 days old!

Well first, congratulations...how exciting!!! Second, my son's head circumference has always been on the small side on the charts, but I've visited twice and his head looks in perfect proportion to me. On US charts, he hovers right around the 50th percentile for height and weight and around the 5th percentile for head circumference. I wonder too how accurate the measurements are, and what they're using to measure. I'm sure he's perfect and beautiful!

You can go to my blog and look at pictures...he may have a small head, but it looks pretty perfect to me!
