I understand that it is customary to give the fm a gift for caring for your child (I would want to anyway, even if it wasn't customary.) and I was wondering if they typically have computer/internet access. The reason I am asking is I was thinking a digital camera would be a nice gift not only because they would hopefully enjoy it, but then she could email me pictures of my son more regularly. We are very lucky that dh is bilingual so communicating with her will be easy for us and I hope to keep in close contact with her whether by computer or phone. Anyway, just wondering if you all are finding your fm have internet access and if you think a dc would be an appropriate gift. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
TIA! Chris |

Greetings - Our FM doesn't have Internet access, and lives in a pretty modest home. But I beleive others in the Forum have discussed corresponding through email with their FMs.
We sent our FM disposable cameras in a care package when we received Sabrina's referral, and had her take pictures of Sabrina for us with her family. We picked up the cameras during our visit trip and had the film developed. I made a photo album for the FM, and will bring it to her on our next visit trip. As for a FM gift, we gave ours a sterling silver cross necklace set with an Ametyst stone, and cash to buy something for her home. Suggest checking with your agency on what would be an appropriate gift for your FM. Best wishes ![]()

There are Internet Cafes in the city that she'd have access to, as she probably doesn't have a computer in her home. So a digital camera might work. But, until you meet her you won't know. Some FM live far from the city and would have no idea how to use a computer, nor have any interest in it.
Disposable cameras might be the best way to go. Also, before you ask for her contact (phone/e-mail) information, make sure it's allowed. Some agencies/attorney's don't allow contact and you wouldn't want to jepordize her job. Take care ![]()

Our foster mother's sister had access to a computer and she wanted a digital camera so that is one of the many gifts that we took her. We are lucky that she did email us photos through our process.
I have a friend who had a beaded name bracelet made for her foster mother with her babies birthstone and pet name that the foster mother calls him......or you could do the babies birthname........ P.S. I do make personalized bracelets if anyone is intersted pm me! |
