Question Where are the babies typically born?

Tonight my husband and I were talking about the emphasis on birth centers now in hospitals in the U.S., and I realized how little I know about prenatal care in Guatemala. Are the babies typically born in the hospital, or at home? How much prenatal care do they receive? Who pays for it, if there is any? It seems like I asked our agency when we first started, but I can't remember what they said. My brain is fried.

Thanks!

I have wondered this also. My guess is, it would depend on where the birthmother is living. My DS was born some place other than the hospital ( I think). There is no name of a facility on his paperwork and the first record from a physician is dated one day after he was born.

I'm interested to hear what others have to say.

Our daughter was born in a private hospital in Guatemala City. From what I've heard/read many of the babies are born at home with midwives, some in the hospitals. If the mothers contact the attorney early enough she can usually some prenatal care that way-- I think it varies a lot though.

My daughter was born in a hospital in Escuintla. I think part of it could be she was born the day of the mudslides last year.

Many babies are born at home with midwives in attendance. Some are born in public or private hospitals, but I actually think I see more born at home than anything else.

As someone else mentioned, if a birthmother makes an adoption plan early enough the attorney will assist with pre-natal care, but I am not sure how often that actually happens.

Pre-Natal Care

Our son was born at home with a doctor attending in Villa Nueva.
Our ** contacted the attorney at 4 or 5 months pregnant and received pre-natal care. We are very fortunate.
