Grand Tikal questions

We are going for our first visit trip and are considering staying at the Grand Tikal. I have a few questions, I tried to search the forums but couldn't find answers to my specific questions.

1. Suite vs. room? Which would you suggest? It will be my husband, me, our 3 year old, and our baby (whom we are visiting). Just want to make sure there is enough room for all of us. If we go with the suite, would we be able to put the kids to bed and still have room for ourselves?

2. Do they have cribs?

3. What about our 3 year old? Should he just sleep in bed with us? Or could we get an extra (rollaway) bed?

4. Is the breakfast buffet included in the price?

5. Did you book directly through the hotel's website, the hotel's phone number, or a travel agency - whether internet or otherwise? (I don't need to know which travel agency you booked through, just whether you did or not.)

6. Can you buy diapers and formula there?

Anything else you think we should know, I'd appreciate it!

Thanks so much!!!

Hi--I don't know about the crib and the diapers. But I've stayed there twice, and the last time we were there, we had the suite. I believe it was only $20-$30 more per night. There's a king size bed, and plenty of room for a rollaway bed and crib. The breakfast buffet is included in the room price.

The suite has a large bathroom and dressing area. There's a table that comfortably seats at least 4 people, so it's easy to do room service or just spread out to play games, etc. The sitting area has a TV, sofa, and a couple of oversize chairs.

The regular rooms are good-sized, too, but the suite was more comfortable and spacious.

I hope you enjoy your visit.

My adoption agency booked the room and they had a special adoption rate.

I booked throught the internet with them both times. I told them that we were in the process of an adoption and they gave us a special rate. They do have cribs and with the mall attached you can get diapers/formula at the pharmacy downstairs. The suites are huge so you will have plenty of room. I am actually in the process of booking right now for our visit trip!

Grand Tikal

We booked by calling direct, we did not request a crib ahead and none were available the first night. We had a regular room with 2 double beds. Very spacious, I don't think all rooms are the same because another couple told us ours was much a nicer size. We were at the end of a hall and it was very quite. We chose to eat in our room, nice table/chairs because our toddler was fond of entertaining us at mealtimes! We did use the pharmacy in the mall, easy access, for diapers, formula, bottled water, etc.. much cheaper. Our staff was very helpful and pleasant, especially our driver who translated for us and was just an overall nice guy very willing to help. Not many other adoptive families that I noticed but we were so caught up with our little guy we didn't pay that much attention. Excellent experience! Enjoy!

Thanks for the responses, I have more questions

On their website, the rooms listed are:
*Grand Deluxe King & Grand Deluxe Twin
*Royale King & Royale Twin
*Executive Suite

Does anyone know what the differences are? Which did you stay in? Do the rooms that say Twin have twin beds or double beds?

Does the staff speak English?

Thanks again!!!

We stayed in the deluxe twin, very spacious. We had a toddler and lots of toys spread out on the floor. We also had a crib. My husband said he will upgrade next time so we have the free drinks/breakfast. We did know know to ask about any adoption rate, but we did get a night free!

Bumping to ask - how do we get to the hotel from the airport????? Do we need to let the hotel know when our flight lands or do the shuttles from the Grand Tikal come around every so often?

Sorry I can't think of all the questions at once - they pop in my head periodically!

They will send a shuttle for you. I emailed them our arrival time and they were outside waiting for us (they wear a hotel uniform, hold up a hotel sign and the van has the hotel name on it...you can not miss it!)
Do you know when you are going?
We will be there Oct. 14-18

The deluxe twin had double beds, we called ahead and let them know our arrival time and they met us at the airport holding a sign with our name. Our driver ended up being a great help to us through our entire stay. My husband will be returnung in Nov.

Am I reading this right on the Grand Tikal's website?

If we pay $100 a night, we get a standard room but don't get breakfast.

If we pay $130 a night, we get a standard room and breakfast.

How much is breakfast? Would it make sense to get it included with the room or to buy it seperately each morning?

Thanks.

we just returned from our pick up trip, we had suite w 2 rooms 1 with king bed and 1 with big table sofa and chair it was room 609 and we loved it, we had our 2.5 daughter w us and our baby and the 2 rooms worked great sophia slept w us...there is A chase in the bedroom part they could prob remove which would give you more room for a roll away too

shuttle is very nice and will be there waiting for u if u let them know flt info

i think with the suite u can use the lounge on the 9th floor that has water etc all day and free apps and drinks from 5-8 every night, and free internet all dat there too

my big suggestion, bring cool clothing, the restaunt, lounge etc are hot, i felt sweaty all the time
