Readoption in New York State
Just wanted to let you all know that the readoption of our daughter is done!! We decided to forego a lawyer and do the paperwork ourselves, which really wasn't too bad. We had to have a report from our social worker, so she came out within a month of us bringing Macie home. The "ceremony" was quick and painless and the judge and the clerk were very nice. She told us to take as many pictures in her chambers as we wanted to (even though there were other families waiting). Our entire immediate family was there along with my best friend and her family. We celebrated at a beautiful banquet hall/restaurant afterwards with a gorgeous cake and balloons, too! If I knew how to attach a picture of this special day...I would!
![]() Anybody else recently finished with their readoption process? It certainly is a load off!! Now bring on the tax credit!! ![]() Julie...mom to Patrick, Ian, and Miss Macie |

Congratulations!
That must feel good!
I'm in NY, too, and wondering about the re-adoption process. How painful was the paperwork? Stefanie

Not bad at all. Lots of people spend $500-$1000 on a lawyer, but it really isn't needed!
Good Luck! Julie |

I'm in NY also and it varies county to county on how involved it is. Some counties all that is needed is to fill out a few forms. I was hoping ours was one of them. NOT. The "nice" woman in Surrogate Court informed me that she'd send me the paper work but in no way could they help me with it! They "highly" suggested we get a lawyer. Which we have done just recently. In the grand scheme of things a little more $$ for the lawyer isn't going to hurt...too much! It's just frustrating that we couldn't do it ourselves. Also from what I've been told it's the lawyer who actually has to submit the forms in our county...Chenango County.
Oh well....ours should be done in a few weeks I hope. It will be a relief to have it all over with and not worry about this and that any more! Glad you're all through and you can relax now!!!
