I need a few answers and so I turn to the pro's!

You guys! hehhe

We applied for dd's passport tonight and gave them our COC and the postal worker said that we needed a ss# for baby to get the passport...

I don't remember having to have that for DD #1's PP...

Anyone know?

Also, now that we have mailed our COC with the PP app can we get her SS# without the COC?

Hmmmmm.....

Thanks for your help. Always appreciated.

Laura Jean

We did have to have a SS# to get our daughter's passport, but I've heard others say they did not...

To get the SS#, we had to have the protocolo, name change and re-adoption papers, new BC, and CoC. This probably varies from office to office too..

Hey Y'all thank you for your responses!

I found info on the US Dept of State and no where does it ever say ANYTHING about needing a ss#.

It says you need ONE document proving citizenship, even a a previous out of country PP as long as it is in good condition.

Both parents must be present and show Driver's Licenses.

I don't remember needing it for our first DD's PP....

I think what they ask for changes from person to person too dependin upon who's at the Post Office window. I don't think they process too many adoptive children's PP's in my post office, therefore not very familiar...

Any how.....

We shall see!

Thanks for the input!

LJ

PS- Doretta... how you doing gal?

i just wanted to chime in too. I don't have experience with this yet but have done a lot of research on this to be a little more prepared. It said on the Dept of State website too that "if you don't have a SSN, then just put 0's in the space". Hope that helps.

You can get the SS# without the COC. Your child will just be listed as a legal resident (I think that is the right term) until you take the COC in and then they can update it to citizen.
