I've been waiting on a referral for five weeks now and my agency says they are working hard to get me a referral. Im sure they are Im just wondering what was the wait like for others.

I don't know what it's like now, but when our agency traveled in March of this year, they ran into our attorney and they had 2 boys already waiting. One was 2 months old and the other was 1 month old. They told us boys are more readily available. Not sure what's happening now though. There may be a "mad rush" with the Hague coming.

My agency always has many waiting boys. I guess it depends on how many attorneys they work with. I hope your referral comes soon!

I got ours immediately and now our agency is only accepting people open to gender b/c they have so many waiting boys.

We're in our third week of waiting (we're open to either gender). While our agency has a shorter wait for boys, they don't have any waiting boys. We're expecting a referral within the next couple of weeks. I think it just depends on your agency.

We were open to either gender. We were told on a Wednesday that we were on the list for a referral and that we were 3rd on the list. (the two families ahead of us were requesting girls)

We had our referral at 11:00 the next morning. It actually surprised me, as I thought we would have to wait longer than we did.

I began researching Adoptions on the eve of Friday, 4/7/06, found our agency early Saturday moring (really early!!!), this is where our Son to be was waiting for us. We saw him that morning and just knew! Sat morning, 4/8/06 we called the agency and Peter Jack was placed on "hold" with us, Monday morning 4/10th we signed up with our agency! We actually had gone about our process backwards, we found PJ, had to gather our Homestudy documentation for our 1st SW Interview on 4/15 (Saturday). It was truly an incredibly quick referral match. Every agency is definitely different, based on everyone's feedback. I hope you receive your referrals very, very soon!!!!

My agency refers boys almost immediately. You do have to be paper ready to be on the list.

The day my dossier arrived to my agency is the day I received my referral for my son.

Hoping you will get a referral soon. We did not request a boy with our last adoption but I know the waiting process to referral was hard for me. Hopefully soon you will "see" your little baby boy. Let us know when you get that referral. Anna

Our agency also has a lot of boys listed.....from infants to teens! There is absolutely no wait for boys from our agency. I, too, think it depends on how many attorneys your agency works with!

We had been waiting for a girl since mid-July and were literally next in line for a referral in late Aug. However, all the birthmothers at the time were having boys. We switched to open gender on 8/31 and got a referral on 9/4 for our son.

We are also paperchasing to get a girl now and the list is very long of people wanting girls ahead of us. We hope to be done paperchasing for our daughter in early Nov and get a 2nd referral by Jan.

I thought it would be as soon as I was paper ready, but our wait for a boy was over a month as well. It depends on your agency and how many people become paper ready at the same time as you (and how many infants are waiting at that point). Apparently I got mine in right at the same time as a whole bunch of other people so we were all waiting. If I would have been done a couple weeks earlier, I would have had an immediate referral. The waiting is hard. Good luck to you....it will happen. (probably very soon).
