Standard Room vs. Deluxe Room at the Marriott

Can anyone tell me what the difference is between the standard room and the deluxe room at the Marriott? They don't tell you on their website.

I don't know, but we requested a room with access to the concierge lounge. It is called a concierge room, I think. Awesome - the lounge has free snacks, fruit, cookies, drinks, etc. with free Internet access, TV lounge, etc. I highly recommend it. Ours came with the free breakfast as well. Our room was $115/night and concierge rooms are supposed to be bigger as well.

I believe that it is the diff between....

the old building (standard) and the new building (deluxe).

We thought for the price we would prefer more room and upped it abit and went for the jr. suite. (they don't offer that on line).

not enough of a diff to deter us and that was two rooms.

we didn't like the exec suite since it had spiral stairs to the bedroom.

we will stick with the jr. suite. t

btw, suites include free bfast and access to the lounge with free snacks and free and unlimited internet access.

hth

I have stayed in both the standard and deluxe room there. The rooms are pretty similar...deluxe may have a tad bit more, but not much. I actually prefer the standard because that is the older tower, where the baby loung is.

We booked a standard for our PU trip, they asked if we wantted for $25 upgrade to the deluxe we said sure, the difference about two more feet of closet space. We went back to the desk and asked for our standard room back becasue it had a balcony.
We did not need to enjoy the closet.

We also had a standard room (old tower) and loved the balcony. We really like it since we listened to the FM and didn't turn the air conditioning on. We never felt the room got hot - just a little humid after showers. It was nice to be able to open the door and let some fresh air in.

On our visit trip (8days) and pick up trip (2 wks) we got standard room each time. I loved having the balcony that I could use to dry clothes in a pinch and we had access to the baby room.
Also at $76 per night and staying that long, it was great!

Just posted this on the other Marriott thread!

The standard room has the balcony and the deluxe room does not. The deluxe room is the same as the standard, but the balcony is closed in, making it part of the room (that's how the Marriott folks explained it). We chose the standard so that we could have the balcony and open the doors when then room got stuffy (we were told not to turn on the air conditioner).

I agree with the others, the balcony in the standard room is very nice. If nothing else it allows some fresh air in your room. It also means that the baby lounge is only a short walk or elevator ride away.

Thanks,

I think that the deluxe room includes breakfast. If there are two of you, then it pays for itself. But you really need to ask the Marriott. On both of our trips, we called them directly to book our room. Each time we asked questions, and on our pick up trip, we asked about a cheaper rate and were able to get it. If you don't ask, don't expect them to offer it!

You can visit the family/baby room in the old tower (and use the fridge/microwave/sinks) even if you're not staying in the new tower. However, if this is your first trip, I highly recommend that you stay in the older tower. It's my understanding that the rates are lower there and you're closer to this room where all the adoptive families hang out.

The Marriott's number is 011 502 2339 7777. They speak wonderful english at the front desk, and you can simply ask them to speak english after they answer.

Best of luck.

Whatever you decide, go for it. We asked for a room near the baby lounge both times. It probably was not necessary. I believe they will give you a key to the baby lounge if you ask no matter where you are staying.
For us, Maya was too young the first time.
The second time, It was Labor Day weekend and incredibly crowded. I get really withdrawn and nervous in a crowd so we did not stay long in the baby room. Normally it is great, we just visited on a very BUSY weekend.
