What do you call Privates? (Piggybacking off Russian thread...)

I read this thread on the russian board and thought it waas hysterical, so I thought I would start it here and get everyone's opinion. We don't use the clinical names in our house for no other reason besides my children always chose other names that were too funny to pass up. I don't have a problem using them, nor a problem with other people who do, they just seem so serious to me.

So in my house my middle son chose the word bumblebee. We have no idea why. He didn't begin talking until he was 3 (speech thing) and I'm not sure if it was just a word he could say or what. We always thought it was a riot but then one day my MIL was going to take a picture and she acted like she was going to tickle them but said, "Here comes the bumblebee!" They all looked at her funny. I'm sure therapy will be required for that one.

I also thought of a friend of mine who calls her kid's privates "their business". I thought this was creative. It wasn't where someone would know what they are talking about, yet still gets the idea across that it is private. So for example, when she has to change her clothes, she'll say, "Go into the bedroom so no one can see your business." Just thought I'd pass that along. I may start using it with Addy when she comes home.

We've always used the "correct" words at our house too. But our daughter has come up with the term "china", I think because it sounds like vagina. And now that we have teenage boys they have come up with LOTS of names, their most used being "my package". Could be worse, I guess! (probaby IS worse when mom and dad aren't around too)

Too funny! That is what my Lauren calls it too! With two brothers and potty training going on, Lauren has been quite obsessed with gender differences lately, and she goes around discussing who has a "peanut" and who doesn't!

Yes, I know you should use the "correct" term with boys and girls.........but I can't stand those two words. My boys call their "privates" their "lil buddy". Not sure what we'll have our daughter call her "privates".

These are all so funny!!! My 3 tear old boy calls his a pee-pee...I guess that's because that's what it does! My 4 year old daughter wishes she had a pee-pee because she really wants to stand up to tinkle (yes, she tried once...big mess! ). I told her that girls get to sit down and relax, but she's still jealous of her little brother. Then there's my 15 year old boy...I've heard all kinds of names from him, usually something like "my big 'ol weiner"...what a dork (and probably a dreamer...hee hee! ). At least he knows not to talk like that when the kids are around! When we were kids, my little brother called his a "thing". No clue why.

well, when I read your post I cracked up b/c we've had a few embarassing moments after teaching our son the clinical name for his parts. One day we are at the hospital's waiting room full of people...at least over 100, when my then 2 year old ethan yelled "HEY," spread open his arms really large like he had an announcement, everyone looked as he yelled at the top of his lungs, "PENIS!!!!!" I could have died. SInce then, we'll be out and about and he'll be like, "hey mom, does that dog have a penis? What about that man?" So, you can see why we decided not to tell him about vagina. Right now it doesn't have a name, but I think I will give it one that when he yells it out in a room full of people they will have no idea what he is talking about

Baby talk

I think we are going to keep it simple and call it his "Pee Pee" at least for a few years, then we will introduce the correct term.

Interesting factoid in this month's (Oct) Parents magazine:

57% of women are embarassed to say the word vagina to their gynecologist.

You can help change those numbers.

At our house we always use the correct term, but as a daycare provider I hear some of the strangest things ever…

For a girl…
flower
cha-cha
Ba-gy-nah
He-Hoo-Nanny
Gy-knee

For a Boy:
Pee-Pee-er
Ba-Gy-nah (By a boy who was with confused or wanted to be like his big sis)
Hoo-HA
Salad corn
Peter

For a rear end:

Tush
Duppa
Fesa
Booty
Tookis

For Bowel Movements:

Ta-Ta
Roses
Cookies (ummm grosss)
Tinky

And you wonder why we use the “technical” terms, sometimes I don’t know if the child needs to have bodily function, or if they desire some baked goods??????
