I say Ali since her names Alisabeth. We named our daughter Ari so I am partial to the short little name. There's so many options these days.

I had a student with the name Alisabeth and everyone called her "Alie"... She was a sweetheart!

OK, now I'm even more confused.
 When Mandy posted "Ally" I thought "Gee, that looks cute too". I thought of Alie - but I get hung up on the fact that it looks like "A LIE", but maybe I should just get over it. Hmmmmmm......... I want to get some letters to put up on her wall and if I spell "alisabeth" it will break the budget, so I thought of doing the nickname version, however I decide to spell it. Any more votes?

It just depends on what you and your husband want .... You can't let your mother (or anyone else for that matter) dictate how to spell YOUR CHILD's name. My mother did ---- we are using Elizabeth and calling her Ella. My mother said, "Ella isn't a name for Elizabeth! You should call her "Beth"!"
So, the decision is yours!! Go with your first instinct! Maura.

I vote for Ali, since that is the way her full name is spelled. Makes more sense to me that way.
Either way, it's a cute name for a sweet little girl!

Ali is my vote--it doesn't remind me of the boxer, but rather the actress Ali McGraw.
About letters to hang up--you can get very cute ones in Guatemala for not much money.
