New Member Needs Help
Hello All,I am a new member and I have so many questions I don't know where to start. I think I will post two questions every other day so as not to be too pesky and annoying. My questions for today are: 1. Can anyone that has adopted 2 children or twins at the same time give me some information on how that is done? Do I request twins, or just tell the agency that I am open to twins? I don't want to wait 5 years for the next set of twins to be born, but I would also jump for joy if I was referred twins. Also, are the costs double? 2. My youngest child has not received his immunizations yet because we believe in waiting until the child is a little older. I am wondering if this is something that will be looked into or frowned upon. Do my current children have to get physicals and if so, what do they entail? Thanks to any and all that can help me answer these questions. We need to start our paperwork soon and are praying that we have our child (children?) home before the Hague problems start. I want you all to know that I pray for all of you each day and am following all of your stories. I especially pray for the children left behind in Guatemala. Thank you Renee |

1. It is to my understanding that you let your agency know that you are open to twins. You can also adopt two unrealated children at the same time. Some people call this twinning. 2.I am not sure about the immunization thing? But your children do have to get physicals. You may just have to write a letter explaining your beliefs.?? I hope someone with more experience on this subject can help you more Carla

Post your questions, you're no different than the rest of us with a million questions when we started. Just post away!
I don't know about the twins thing. I wanted twins badly but the fees are double. You're looking at probably 50 thousand. You'd probably just be further ahead doing your dossier and then watching the photolistings for twins, putting some emails into some agencies saying that you are looking for them. JMO, don't know if that's the right thing to do. Of course, make sure you check out the agency before your accept. Yes, your children have to get physicals. And as far as I understand, they must be up on their immunizations. You have to have a doctor's letter for each of your children stating that they are up to date and healthy. Any other questions?

We adopted two biologically unrelated children who are 6.5 months apart in age. Not exactly twins, but close enough most days!
Our agency only charged us one agency fee, but everything else was double. Twins do become available, it just leaves you with a much more open referral time.Good luck!

We didn't adopt twins, but...
Renee, Sounds like you are beginning your home study and/or agency applications. Good idea to start your I600A for US CIS (ask your home study agency and/or adoption agency for help). We adopted a child from Guatemala in 2004, but had said we'd be open to twins. First question:You should indicate to both your home study agency and adoption agency (if you use one) what you want. If it's twins, say twins. If it's only one, say only one. Just keep in mind that requesting "twins only" could mean delay in getting a referral. If your preference is twins, but you'd accept one child in a pinch - my recommendation would be say that to both agencies. If you can stay more flexible it could help save time if you need it. Search other posts for updates on the Hague: general consensus seems to be you'll be in the safe zone once your power-of-attorney has been registered in Guatemala. PM us if you need to.

When my husband and I started out, we indicated in our home study that we were willing to take 2 children, whether they be twins, siblings or unrelated (we didn't specify a gender either). Also, the I600A has to indicate that you are willing to take 2. Our agency told us that we could change our minds if we wanted to after the fact. But it would be better safe than sorry in the long run. As for the answer to your second question, I am not sure. Good luck. My husband and I are getting a boy and girl. Our referrals came a week a part.

my children are no where near up to date on their immunizations (according to the AAP), they are however being immunized according to my schedule that I know to be safer). I was ready to fight this one but you do not need to.
All you need for your child's health letter is a letter stating they are in good health and that they attend their well child visits as sceduled from their dr. Do not make any statements for or against vaccines and it will not be an issue. Please pm me if you need more info or you are being told differently. Don't let people bully you into following a schedule you are not comfortable with. Laura |
