Visit trip question

We are bringing our two year old on our visit trip in a couple of weeks. He loves to eat fruit and I am sure will want some from the Marriott buffet. I can't seem to remember if it is safe to eat the fruit with the skin or cut up without skin? I sure don't want him to be sick on our trip. Thanks.

You can safely eat anything on the Marriott buffet. The hotel has a very good central water filtering system. I drank a lot of tap water last time I was there and had no problem. That is the same water that they use to prepare food (wash fruit), so I would not worry at all.

if you would be staying somewhere where the water used for washing the fruit is questionable, you should peel and cut the fruit up, and you would still be OK.

One warning - we visited in mid August and brought our 5 and 10 year old. All of us except our 5 year old drank the hotel water and ate everything at the Marriot buffet, but the first night, after just brushing her teeth with the hotel room water, my 5 year old had lots of vomiting and stomach cramps less than 12 hours later. We subsequently brushed her teeth with bottled water and only let her drink bottled water, then she was fine.

I think the food is fine. I would not, however, drink the water or the ice....especially out of hte faucet in your room. I have travelled to many countries....and I ALWAYS brush my teeth with bottled water....usually my travelling compainions think I am crazy...until they get sick. ALSO, I keep hearing that little kids get sick there and someone suggested that it was actually from the germs in the room since so many people travel through there. I bought the coolest thing from clorox...it is a small bottle of disinfectant spray (similar to lysol, but not aerosol). I can't wait to spray down my room

Scoobs, we stayed at the Tikal with Sophia on our visit and she ate the fruit and had no probs.

We still haven't decided for sure where we are staying on pick up. If we bring Sophia, I think we will stay at the Tikal. We want a suite and I am afraid of those stairs in the two floor suite at the Marriott. But we may change our minds.

Hope we can see you guys when we are down there.

Jenn

We brought our 3 year old son on our visit trip. He drank the water and ate the fruit at the Marriott, as did we -- no problems at all. Any other hotel, I would advise bottled water for everything, (and fruit that you wash yourself with bottled water before eating it). But the Marriott filtration system is very good.
