In need of healthy selections for....
a 8 1/2 month old who has 2 bottom teeth. I offer her saltless crackers, thin slices of apples and it has been suggested to me that cereal works well. What I am looking for is a variety of food choices (sloppy and clean) that are large enough she can hold, yet something she can eat/suck on for in between meal snacks. I am also aware of the gerber teething crackers and biscuits. I guess some healthy snacks that aren't always so carbohydrate based. Any suggestions???? By the way if you didn't figure it out I am a first time mommy.
Thanks Cindy |

Some of our son's favorites are: bananas, peaches w/o skin, watermelon, cottage cheese, black beans (canned- drained and rinsed).

Foods
My girls loved to munch on a carrot! They could hold it in their hand ! Gerber also makes a great line of products that are bite size fruits and vegetables. I used these for a very picky toddler I had in my day care. Also they have some good baby crackers that are called veggie crackers. Bananas are good but messy ! But cheerios are my all time favorite ! Whatever you give them be sure you to watch them for chocking ! Some times they get a little piece of something off and then they don't know what to do with it ! Sounds like good times !

My kids all loved watermelon, bananas, pears, pasta, cottage cheese, yogurt, cooked carrots... You can also get one of those food net things...don't know what they are called. It's a small mesh bag that's attached to a small handle. You put an apple or pear or peach in the mesh bag part and the kids can kind of suck/chew on it without getting all of the big pieces.
Be careful with those baby biscuits/cookies. They can break off in big pieces and choke the baby. I never liked them or used them with any of my kids. They scared me! Same with anything doughy (bagels, pizza crust, rolls). I tended to stick to things that easily dissolved. Try cheerios or rice krispies!
