Changing Jobs While in the Midst of Adoption

Does anyone know if this presents a problem? I'm already feeling stressed enough as it is with the adoption and everything but now things in my office are getting unbearable. I am considering a change. Does anyone know if this will cause a problem? Has anyone made a change while going through this process? I know that we have to show three previous paystubs when we go to the Embassy. I just want to make sure that they don't have to match the name of your employer in the HomeStudy. I am a paralegal and have to deal with attorneys all day. I'm just about OVER it!!! I won't even start on that or I'd be writing for pages. I am just thinking about exploring opportunities but I don't want to do anything to cause a holdup with the adoption. Zachary is my #1 priority and I want to make sure that I do exactly what I need to get him home as soon as possible.

Thanks for your input everyone. I just finished a margarita after a really bad day so please excuse me if I made any typos.

We actually moved and my husband changed jobs after our homestudy report was completed! It didn't present a problem at all. We just had an addendum added to our homestudy. We brought that to the embassy with us for our pink appointment. I was worried it was going to create a problem as well, but at least for us it wasn't a big deal at all. Good luck!!

Hmmm. I'm not sure. My first reaction was that it shouldn't matter as long as you're producing an income and can show the Embassy that and I don't know that the Embassy even sees your home study. But I'm cautious to tell you it shouldn't matter...especially since little things like accent marks matter. I'd talk to your agency about it and get their opinion. Good luck. I know what it's like to be stuck in an awful job...it's miserable.

Oh Rebecca, I'm sorry you had such a crummy day. Todd asked the same question and they told us it would not be a problem if we changed jobs?

My husband changed jobs 3 times during our adoption. No problem at all. The Embassy doesn't match your pay stubs up against your homestudy at pick-up. And we never had our homestudy amended either. I wouldn't worry about it.

I did, and I haven't had a problem yet. I just told them that the new job had hours more conducive to family life, which they understood completely.

Good luck!

I would contact your agency in the event you change jobs so that they can update your homestudy. I was told by our agency that it didn't matter as long as it was documented in our homestudy. The other thing you have to consider is that you still fall above the poverty income line in your new position. With your job title sounds like you would have no problem qualifiing and I just wanted to mention it.

With the ways things are in this process it might not be a problem for some but for others if may be.

Good luck

Job Change

I just asked our agency the same question and we are in PGN. They said we would have to update our home study and take a letter of employment verification with us to the embassy appt. I would ask your agency what they require.

Good luck!

We had a job change in our family while in PGN and we were very stressed. We finally had courage to let our agency know and they said don't worry at all. They said as long as the other spouse makes the required salary (about 20,000), it was fine. The person working would fill out the form at the Embassy ...we've moved passed that one : )

Hope this helps!

Last time I changed jobs midway in the process and our agency said we should do nothing since we were already in PGN and the embassy doesn't make sure the paystubs are actually from the job listed on the HS. Besides, we just used DH's since they made the minimum and were the same.

This time, DH will very likely be going from unemployed to employed and I will be changing hours and hence salary by the time we are even in PGN so we will probably have to have the HS updated, and I would guess that we'll need new employment letters.

When they say that you have to have recent pay stubs at the embassy appointment.... How recent are they talking? COuld they be from a couple months before or do they have to be from within a month or so?

Thanks to everyone that responded. I had forgotten about this post. I am really glad to know that I can change jobs in the midst. I will ask my agency first though to see what they say. If it is a problem for some reason, I'll stay where I am and endure it for my little angel baby. ;-))

If you change you would want to be sure to disclose the information with your agency. If you are really worried about it you should ask them what you need to do before you change employers. While we were in PGN I lost my job due to company closed. I had them write a letter exlpaining what happened. I started a new job and had them write a similiar letter as what was needed for the homestudy. I did have them include that I would be granted leave once the adoption was complete in Guatemala. I gave a copy of each letter to my agency to update my homestudy. I didn't want any missing pieces just in case it would come up. Some may say that they don't match your paystubs with your homestudy. But that's not to say they have never done it before.

Good luck

Julie
