Does anyone have information on adoption fares? Numbers or the affordibility? I need to book a flight tonight and I can get a relatively inexpensive ticket (restricted), however, if adoption fares are better and more flexible, that may be the way to go.

Hi Lesley,

I have heard that most of the adoption rates are based on full fare (not economy), so even with the discount the tickets are usually more money than you could get if you bought a restricted ticket. But, if you need to change the flights around, the full ticket with the adoption rate may come out to be cheaper (but probably not by too much). I am just relating what I have heard; I am not a travel agent or anything. HTH.

This is my experience with adoption rates on airlines. We traveled 6 times to Guatemala. Each time I tried adoption rates on all the carriers that offered them Adoption rates for the most part were 50% off of RACK RATE. That being said, most of the rates you see online on any of the travel sites - expedia, travelocity, etc.. are already discounted by 50% or more. So I ALWAYS got a better deal either calling the airline direct and telling them my situation and them helping me find the best rate or by going on one of the many travel websites.

I also found that the adoption fares were so much more that even after paying $100 to change my ticket I still came out ahead with just a regular booking. Edited to remove fee based adoption service.

The last I knew, Delta had adoption fares, but I don't know of any others.

I used Delta and the rates for the adoption rate were much higher! It really surprised me!

Delta offers 65% off of FULL FARE. It is only available for the pick up trip, not for visits.

The fare works well if you have to book the flight at the last minute. It gives you 100% flexibility. For me it was about the same amount as a discounted, book 21 days in advance fare.

United also offers adoption fares, 50% off the FULL fare ticket. We used it when we went for our pickup trip. We flew First class and saved about 2000K
