Question about pickup trip and tax returns
I read somewhere that when you go to pickup your child you have to show 3 years of tax returns and w-2's and have a letter stating your current employment status. Is that true? I have not heard anyone mention it and thought I may need to get that stuff together if I need too.
Thanks, Natalie |

I had understood that was only if both parents had not visited and were coming home on an IR4 visa

According to our agency, it is a notarized copy of last years tax return

My husband and I both visited, so our son should come home on an IR3 visa. Do we still need the tax returns?

This is supposed to only be for those adopting under an IR-4 VISA. However, we were told to always bring ours just in case even though we adopted with an IR-3 Visa. We were never asked for ours, but we had them just in case!

It may have recently changed. Ask your agency.
For both of my adoptions, I had to have 3 years of tax forms, no matter if it was IR3 or IR4. Both of mine were IR 3. Hope it is only one year now for my new baby, as I have last years forms sitting in front of me on the desk as I type! Don't really want to pull out the others. . . I am getting REALLY TIRED OF FORMS!!!

I remember, not just 5 years ago, not only did we have to have the forms, but I had to have a picture of my husband, myself and the child and the three years forms AND his passport. A copy wouldn't do at that time. (He didn't go with me on that trip).
I also had to have another form filled out and notarized (I believe it was the I-600). Anyway . . . I am rambling . . . check with your agency on what is needed now. EXCEPT I was serious, I have two friends that I had to remind them to have new bills for the VISA $. They don't trust old money . . . I have heard of them turning down money that have marks and tears in them.

I will chime in here on the money thing....
REALLY - THEY WILL LOOK AT YOUR MONEY. Take good clean money - the newer the better. No rips, inks, or doodeling on the money. I always went to the bank prior to traveling and we searched for the cleanest money.

If you are going to pick up your child without your husband, and you want an IR3 visa, you have to have proof that your husband met your child. I think I have seen that now you can have a notarized copy of your husband's passport showing that he was there (or vice versa if your husband is going). Anyway, the best thing to do is check with your agency on what is needed right now. I haven't done this in 4 years and it may have changed drastically since then.

It's crazy how this info varies! My agency said it changed recently and you only need a copy of your last year's tax return (not 3 years). They also said a recent employment letter verifying both of our employment. We were told none of these documents had to be notarized! Also the I600A and I171H. We're going for pickup on Wednesday and will be at the Embassy on Friday. Hopefully all will be OK!
