Starting again......maybe
Anyone thinking of starting the process? I have a son from Guatemala who is 16 months old. We also are thinking about relocating. So..... with everything that is going on I just don't know. Any thoughts??

If you def. want another child from Guatemala I would start as much as you can now..Even with Ana being up at night for 2 years, I still yearn for another girl..
Wish you the best with your 2nd adoption..

I'm also curious about this. Our daughter is 3.5 yo an has been home since 15 months of age. We have always thought we might adopt another child from Guatemala. It was going to be later rather than sooner, but with all the possible looming Hague issues we think it should probably be sooner, since no one knows what will happen later.
Is it silly to start the paper chase now? Would we be enough ahead of the game? Or will we just end up in another horrible Hague-related mess. We would have to redo our expired homestudy, get new INS approval, etc. Tina

We decided to move ahead sooner than expected, due to all of the upheaval and the potential to re-use the same 171....although given PGN's current timeframes, it could expire before we are home. Good luck!!!

We decided to go for it again and just had our homestudy update. I forgot how painful the paperwork is (but I still think better than pregnancy!). We're just telling ourselves and everybody else that it's going to take a while this time (a year plus), then if it goes faster we'll be pleasantly surprised. Hope we all have good luck!

Can't say from experience, but there are at least a few starting now for the first time. What I've been told by a number of different people is that if you have your I600A approved, you should be fine. I've also been told by a number of places that the accrediting agency is nowhere near to being decided upon and there is still 90 days waiting time after that happens. So, even if the agency was decided today, there is still 90 days. Though, who knows how much time it will take away from the adoption agency to get accredited, though, I suppose. Good luck with your decision! Amy

Ditto here...
I too planned later rather than sooner (next spring), but with the Hague looming I started recently. Keep in mind that thousands of other families are doing the same thing, so it is going to be a slow go. I'm expecting my next child to be older than my son when he came home (my son was 5.5 mos) and that the process will take longer - hopefully my expectations will be exceeded (meaning shorter than expected!).
If your heart is set on Guatemala, I'd say go for it! Good luck! Lynn

Do it!
We decided to adopt again after our son had been home only 10-11 months. I found doing the paperwork much easier. Our I171 was still valid but we redid everything. Everything was together and complete in about 1 month. We went through the Hague and had no desire to go through that again. Do it.

We brought our daughter home in Jan. She is 13 months now, and we just started the process again... I figure we'll be paper ready sometime the middle to end of Sept as the Orlando INS office is pretty quick to process the I171...

We have a 21 month old from Guatemala who has been home since he was 6.5 months old. After much disucsion, we started the process in March and accepted the referral of our second little boy in late May. Our two are 17 months apart (almost exactly).
I say go for it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
