Hey guys,
I am not new to the forum, I was actually very active on the forum about 18 months ago while I was waiting on the adoption process for my almost two year old. I adopted my son from Guatemala a year ago and thinking on adopting again but I read a disturbing article in the Houston Chronicle Saturday. I saw that they are thinking on shutting the country down by not accepting any new cases and that the PGN current has like 3500 pending cases on her desk. Is this true? I would like some feedback please! I am considering adopting from Guatemala or Mexico. Thanks, Christina |

There is a sticky at the top of the Guatemala board that talks about the Hague issues. Guatemala is still currently processing adoptions, but at some point in 2007 U.S. citizens will not be able to adopt from Guatemala until the Hague issue is straightened out.
There is definitely a huge slowdown in PGN right now. We don't really know why, though there are lots of rumors flying! The last number I heard was that there were likely 700 - 1000 cases in PGN. But, I don't know if that still holds true. Hopefully you will get more responses to your post. I would say that if you are going to start your adoption in the next few months then you're probably fine. However, if you are wanting to wait until the start of the year then you may hit some problems. Just my opinion.

Hey,
Cristian is doing well. He had two surgeries in July of 2005 and had to followup with CT-Scans and Neurosurgery for this past year. He is currently enrolled in a study for head injuries at UT and with early childhood intervention. He is developmentally on track but with time if he has had any injuries we will see it with his developement in the future. One of the MRI's that he had in february showed that he had been repeatedly abused and had injuries similar to the shearing injury on the brain that you get in a bad car accident. He is lucky...They said that if we did not get him when we did he would have probably passed away from respiratory failure. I wish all the best for you.
