affording the last adoption payment

ok...so hopefully I'll be out soon, and since $10,000 has not magically appeared in my mailbox like I had hoped, I guess I have to do something real. Anyone out there find a good low interest or adoption loan or credit card they want to pm me about? I thought about doing a fundraiser, but other than a garage sale, I don't think we would get much fianancial support from our friends and family. any ideas?

We are only a hair short and are having a HUGE garage sale in which everyone and their brother has donated to. We are crossing out fingers that makes up the difference for us. We took out a 2nd mortgage to pay for the adoption. Is that possible for you? Or a home equity line of credit? Those are usually the best finanicial choices when you are talking about BIG money like that. GOod luck and hopefully you will get it figured out REAL soon.

Hugs

We did have a yard sale, to which TONS of family and friends donated and we raised over $1700. I know that's not the full amount of the attny fees, but it sure can add up!

Hi,
Good subject.....
My husband and I were just talking over the idea of starting the process for the second baby now. This way we can use some of the paperwok from the dossier and save a few bucks at the same time. Like finger prints, forms back and forth add up. I am not comfortable asking family or friends for help...I would feel funny, not with something this personal. Maybe if I needed a new washer or something but not to help pay for my child. But that is just me.....don't take offence to that, some people are very comfortable asking others for help with money. Anyway we thought about how we would get the second bank roll of money for the adoption. My husband suggested we either take out his 401k ( I don't want to use this money) or a re- do our (almost done) home equity loan. Now this being said we also figured we would not need the full 20 thousand because my CPA told us last year that we would get back Ten Thousand (adoption tax credit) at the next years income tax , so we would re-apply that money to the second adoption. Now if it works for us on our second it should work for your first adoption....... you can borrow from the bank, credit card ...with the knowledge that when you get your income tax back you will pay off your loan with that money...making your loan less or for a shorter period of time then what you thought. So if you were to use a credit card, say for the first 6 months at a lower interest rate, you time it so you will have your income tax back around the time your lower rate ends or close to it so you are not having a big dept for a long period of time. But check with you CPA, I would not use those ones that come out once a year.....I like mine because he is there all year round. But good luck to you, hope this helped a bit. Remember check with your CPA, he should also help you figure out the time line.....so your not paying too much for too long.
Take care...........CeeCee

thank you everyone for the ideas. I tried to up my home equity line today, and they actually said that it was too high already and that if they did any adjustments they would actually have to lower it...go figure. I might be fundraising afterall. I don't like asking people for money either, so I'm not sure what I'll do...but I'm sure with all these great ideas I am bound to find something. It is weird....I'm not poor enough to get a grant, but I'm too poor to get a loan.

Here are a few ideas we used...

#1 Line of credit
#2 Small loan from my credit union
#3 Obtained a 0% interest credit card (for one year) and used that for smaller fees (be sure you can pay it off in one year or the interest will be outrageous!!)
#4 Fundraiser - Yard Sale - may people donated.
#5 Fundraiser - Cookbooks - family and friends gave me family friendly recipes; I typed them in since that would give me a discount; then ordered 200 and have almost all of them sold. This was our BEST fundraiser yet.
#6 Selling things on Ebay
#7 Intend to do a "Current Fundraising" fundraiser in the spring
#8 Knitting dishcloths and selling them (they're very unique as I'm just learning how to knit; each one has their very own little birthmark somewhere in the pattern! Makes them more unique!)
#9 Bake Sale
#10 Second job - this lasted for about nine months.

Hope some of the ideas are helpful!

Our equity is maxed also so I plan to sell (hand-tied, noncertified organic) Christmas Wreaths this year. For years I have made them as gifts for family and friends as well as donated to local fundraisers. This year I will try to market them on my own. I will try local businesses as well as see if I can create a web page somehow. If that doesn't cover the remainder, I plan to do a low interest credit card as they tend to have better rates than my CU.
