Birth Certificate: English and Spanish?

Hello Everyone,

I'm new to this forum, but I have a question concerning the birth certificates received in Guatemala. I need to know if they are both in Spanish and English or just Spanish. My wife and I are stationed in Germany and the timing for getting a passport for our daughter, Geneva while we are in the States is critical. I will need to make advance arrangements for an official translation if the BC is only in Spanish. Thanks so much in advance for your help.

The BC will be in Spanish only, but your attorney should attach an English translation for you. You'll get that paperwork on your pick-up trip.

Daphne,

Thanks for the info. I'm trying to make this go as smooth as possible once we get back to the States. We only have about 3 weeks to get all paperwork to travel back to Europe. Thanks again.

Is your daughter coming home with an IR-3 Visa, meaning you visited before the doption was complete? If not, you won't b able to get a US Passport that quick since you won't have Certificate of Citizenship.

Even with a CoC, meaning you visited prior to the adoption being complete, it doesn't show up in the mail for 3-6 weeks after arriving home.

Your baby will have a Guatemalan Passport. Can she travel to Germany with that?

Let me know if you'd live me to explain the Visa's more.

Daphne,

We will have an IR3 Visa. I've already checked with immigration and they said that with the papework that I get when we enter the US with our daughter (the stamp in her Guatemalan passport showing entry on an IR3 Visa) is proof enough for her to get a passport. The CoC is not needed. This is what we've been officially told. But, you never know what another person will say when we apply for the passport. I've done everything I can to make it work. But all it takes is one person that interprets the rules slightly different to mess things up. Thanks again for the info.
