Help with readoption
We are starting to work on our readoption, and met with a lawyer today. Our son came home on an IR3 visa, and we are working on the readoption in Georgia. That being said, I have a couple of questions....
1. One of the requirements is "a certified copy of the final decree of adoption". Which document is the final decree? Is it the birthmother's sign-off? 2. Apparently the state of GA requires the original copies of this, the Guatemalan birth certificate, etc. Has anyone else done this??? I'm very hesitant to give up the original documents... I read on Guatadopt.com that you shouldn't be required to do so, but our attorney says it's the only way. He said it won't matter because Josiah will then have a GA birth certificate, yada, yada, yada. Any thoughts or suggestions? I really don't want to make a mistake and not have what we need later. Thanks so much! Bethany |

Hi Bethany!
Welcome back! I'm not sure if you remember me. I am the one from Savannah. While you were down there someone had done a post about people adopting from GA. There are a couple more families from the Savannah area (Guyton) on the board. Good luck on getting the answer to your question. I am very interested to read the posts, since I will be going through the readoption soon as well. I do know there is a lady in the Clerk of Court office at the court house that handles the readoptions for Chatham county. I had a card with her phone number on it somewhere. She works with a couple friends of mine. I'll try and locate her number and PM you. It is in the same office that you had to get your county level notary certifications. Take Care,

Hi Sandy,
Thanks! And congratulations to you on getting out of PGN! What a huge sigh of relief that is!!! Our process from Out to Pink was very quick, and I hope yours is too! We'll have to get our little ones together once you get home and adjusted! Do let me know if you find that number.... Carol (above) pm'd some really great information about readoption too. I'll let you know how it goes. Bethany |
