Question Quote: Adoption is like Marriage

Some one posted not too long ago a quote about adoption being like a marriage.

I lost the quote and I can't find the thread.

("Search" doesn't work for me - does it work for anybody?)

Anyways, I know many of you liked it.. Can anybody share it with me again?

Thanks!

Here's a similar quote that I have in my son's lifebook....

The idea of adopting is like a marriage. You make a lifetime commitment to a person with no biological relationship to you. You promise to "love and cherish for richer, for poorer, for better, for worse, in sickness and in health, as long as we both shall live."

While this quote and the one to the attached link are interesting, I disagree with them because it sounds as if the child has a choice. As if they asked to leave their biological parents and are happy for that seperation. I don't believe that to be ture. While we may be the parents they love and know, no one can say it was thier choice.

I just feel the quotes are very one-sided.

Hmmmmm.....I never read into it that way. No, the child doesn't have a choice at all. My children didn't.

When I read "You make a lifetime commitment to a person," I think of that as myself making a lifetime commitment to the child.

Thanks for the insight, though!

We can't choose who our birth parents are either... I still think the quote is cool, because the person making the committment does not have to. But I guess you don't have to make a committment to your biological children either.... maybe we could just paraphrase the quote to say "committment is good".
But I think something gets lost there.

I guess what I'm trying to say... If the quote means something to you, go with it. If it doesn't, forget about it.

btw... I'm not making a slam, just an observation... I guess I am just indifferent.
