what to wear to the embassy

What do people wear to the embassy appointment? Why did I not think about this before?

Thanks.

I just wore a long'ish length skirt and a white t-shirt w/flats. It was very chilly/breezy the morning we went(Nov 16 '05), so I'm not sure how the weather would differ for July/Aug. I'd probably take a light sweater just in case.

I had heard a lot about dressing up, but when I was in GC, it was very common to see people in jeans. I would just wear whatever pants you're comfortable in and a nice blouse.

Something comfortable. My agency told me "just no cut-offs". I wore black pants, sandals and a short sleeved shirt. Don't stress over it.

Linda ~ I wore a long casual skirt, top, and comfortable flats. The Embassy is so crowded that I doubt anyone notices what you wear..

I wore a long (mid calf) khaki skirt and a tank with a sweater over it..Course Cody had to throw up on me before we got into the little room and the sweater was brand new with these fine little hairy things so the puke just kinda hung there... very lovely memories of that...
Relax..nice casual is fine..

I wore nice capris and a cardigan with a top underneath. It was chilly in the morning, but a long wait at the embasssy and that crowded room got very hot. So, layers are a good idea!

Hey Linda. I rarely get on this forum anymore, but I remember when you first got your referral -- following your progress through the early stages of your adoption process. Congrats on getting out of PGN. . .it looks like you are close to travel. Good luck!

I wore black pants, a turquoise blouse, and flat black shoes. Not too dressy, but nice. The other adopting families I saw were casual, but I didn't see jeans or shorts on them. To be honest, I don't remember what the Guatemalan people were wearing. It was really crowded in the room, even at 7:30 am (lots and lots of folks waiting to get their passports and work visas).

I dressed our baby in a cute little outfit with long sleeves, pants, and socks. It was chilly in the morning, and I've heard that it's not appropriate in Guatemala for babies to be barefoot or show too much skin.

And in case you don't know already, they will search your bags, so bring in as little as possible. They actually confiscated my husband's cigarettes! He had to leave his driver license as "collateral" to get the cigarettes back when we were finished!
