What would you do?

I have been waiting for my agency to send a cover letter to our social worker since June 30th. Without this cover letter my homestudy is not complete....and I can't finish my dossier. The agency has promised it to me several times....Then I find out there are problems with their printer. Only they did not tell me this for several weeks. I have had to keep following up...as well as our social worker. This is something that should have taken a few days...it has already been over 3 weeks. I am very angry as I have had problems with this agency prior to this. What would you all do?

hmm ... their serious excuse is that their printer hasn't worked for a month? What choices do you have? I'm assuming that if you already have a referral you can't switch agencies? Can you call them and speak to the director? If it were me, I'd probably try and speak to the "highest up" person I could about it. If you've already done that ... I just don't know, but I'd for sure be spitting mad.

Good luck, I hope you find something that will fix this right away!

Can they email you the cover letter and you can print it out.............

I am very sorry this is happening - espescially since you already have accepted your referral. But for your referral, I would advise you to switch agencies........

I hope you get it resolved very, very soon!

Wow...in this day and age they are using the printer as an excuse? Tell them to use $200 of the money you have paid them to buy a new printer! That is ridiculous! I guess I would ask them to email it to me so I could print it out (or advise them to find the nearest Kinko's). I would be concerned there was something else going on...the printer excuse is pretty flimsy. Hope you get it soon!

I think I would DEMAND they email it to you so that you can print it out. Myself personally think that is unacceptable!

Well, I imagine she has to sign it after it has been printed out..so the email thing is out....although something tells me that you would have been willing to print it out, overnight it to her and have her overnight it back...'cause you would've had it by now, right? .now she needs to find the nearest kinkos and get her @$$ over there and print the thing out. One of my BIGGEST agency frustrations is when they KNOW there is a problem (aka printer....) and they do NOTHING about it and do not tell you for weeks! I FEEL your pain! I would suggest this and see what she says, you have waited far too long! I seriously hope they do not make you pay for foster care since your dossier won't be in Guatemala 30 days after your referral.....if they do, girl you better FIGHT!

I had a few problems with our home study agency (not placement) and I just kept going up the chain of command. That seems like a pretty ridiculous excuse to me.

I agree...I would call and ask for a director or CEO or someone in charge and ask them why not being able to print is the hold up...it's a poor excuse for not getting this done! Someone could have had it printed SOMEWHERE - ANYWHERE!

I feel so angry after reading this...I feel close to you and it's like someone is taking advantage of my sister! Makes me want to go to the office myself and give someone a piece of my mind!

Unfortunately it is the director I am talking about. She is out of state for the month. When she attemps to print from her computer....it prints in the state the agency is based in. I only found that out 6 days ago. Up to that point, she promised to send it out ASAP several different times. 6 days ago she said she hired someone to do the cover letter in FL. She said she would have it overnighted. The last time I followed up by email to see what was going on, it took 4 days, 2 emails, and social worker involvement to get a response. Each day that goes on I get angrier. I just wish I could do something.

One thing that DH and I have had to do with doctors is to call every day. We would be very polite, just simply saying that X needed to be taken care of and that we would continue to call every day until it was taken care of. If that did not work, we would continue to be polite but tell them that we would now be calling several times a day until X was taken care of. This technique works pretty well - they get tired of hearing from you and take care of your issue.

I hate for you to have to do that, but it is crazy that you've had to wait this long for a simple piece of paper when they literally could go to Kinkos and rent their computer for 20 cents a minute and print it out there!

As the saying goes, the squeaky wheel gets the grease!

I had a feeling it would turn out to be the director. I still agree with others that this is a poor excuse and the director should realize that. Should she have problems, I can't see why she couldn't print it somewhere else or hire someone weeks ago to take care of it.

I would suggest calling her and finding out who is doing the letter, their number and when they've said they'd send it. THEN, I would call that person, explain the situation (who knows what she said) and beg them to please help you by sending it immediately.

Good luck By the way, your son's grin is ADORABLE!

I hope your homestudy agency is not your placement agency...we have had so many setbacks in Guatemala that I tell you from somebody who has been there -- if you don't have an agency that is willing to work through an issue like a printer, then they will NOT be able to handle the difficulties of adoption in Guatemala!!! Sorry this is happening.

I am sorry you are dealing with such incompetence! Like others said, ever hear of Kinkos?!? They can't afford to pay a couple $ to print something at Kinkos and mail it to you after paying them several thousand $? I often wonder how some businesses actually manage to stay in business with customer service like this?!? Unbelievable!
