If we eat breakfast we wont eat lunch,
What is the average price of 2 adults eating at the Marriott?

What is the Breakfast Buffet Like? hot and cold foods? Juices, ect...

What about Room Service, Is it more if we have a fussy baby and dont want to leave the room?

Thanks in advance

oooo....I loved the food at the Marriott. We ate the breakfast buffett...which was yummy. There were hot foods- tamales, omelettes, other good dishes, and cold foods- cereal, fruit, cheese, and juices. For lunch we usually ate little snacks we brought, too. And then we ate early dinner...I hate to say it, but we ate most of our meals at "Champs"...which is an American style restaurant in the hotel. The pizza was so yummy! The room service was not bad either. One night we got a little plate of nachos and mini tacos with guacamole. Everything was very reasonably priced. I don't remember exact figures, but it was similar to dining out here. Enjoy!

I am going to leave the cost question to someone who has been more recently, but the breakfast buffet is to die for. I keep hoping every morning to see it set up in my kitchen! Several kinds of fresh squeezed juice, lots of fresh fruit, made to order eggs/omlets, sometimes pancakes (important for my then 5-year-old!), bacon/sausage, salsas, bread, cereal, yogurt, and a selection of pastries. I am sure I am forgetting some, but you get the point! YUM!!

They have a nice buffet every night, but it is on the pricer side. (Not necessarily pricey for a buffet, but I want to say it was around maybe $18/person when I was there, and I can't eat $18 worth of food no matter how hungary I am.) They have a decent al a carte menu, with sandwiches, pasta, etc. you can order in the restaurant or from room service. We ate a lot of chicken sandwiches, club sandwiches, and black bean soup.

In addition to the main restaurant, there is a more formal Italian restaurant that is very good, but I didn't feel very child friendly. Maybe if you have a baby who will sleep, but not with toddlers. There is also Champs which is a sports bar and has the best quesadillas I have ever had. And the worst nachos. (Stale chips with processed cheese sauce! Blah!)

Now I have made myself hungary!

It won;t be strange to not leave the hotel. We left one day for about 30 minutes, and I could have done with out it. The hotel is big, there are a few shops, a pool, and three restaurants. We had a jr. suite so we had a little more room when we were in our room. Oh, and if you do not want to leave with a fussy baby, not only can you do room service, but you can send dh down to Champs and they will pack your stuff up "to go" for no extra charge.

There are 2 restaurants to choose from for lunch and dinner - Champs , which is essentially American bar food, and La Vista, which is more Guatemalan food. If the breakfast buffet is included, you are in good shape because it's pretty expensive. Champs is pretty inexpensive or at least comparable to a restaurant at home. La Vista is reasonable, just be careful about the buffets, it's what they always offer but when I figured it out, it came to between $20-30 each. You can order off the menu,

Also, if you hang out at the pool, you can order food there. It's a combination from both restaurants and very reasonable!

We ate almost all of our meals at the Marriott. We did go to Antigua one day with a tour guide and we ate delicious food there.

Anyway, we mostly ate at Champs and the breakfast buffet is great like everyone has told you and it was included in our room price. Champs has free popcorn and that was great for Parker he loved it!!

You'll be just fine never leaving the Marriott, but there is a McDonalds right next to the Marriott if you did venture out a bit!!

Greetings Brandee -- We're going for a visit trip in a few weeks. Our agency said we could pay with U.S. dollars. I think we'll charge our meals to the room. Just provide our room number and signature And then tip with dollars. Gonna take a wad of $1 and $5 bills for those tips!

We always just signed for our food to be billed to our room, and paid by credit card at checkout. Then tipped with whatever currency we had in our pocket. We never really used that much cash. A couple runs to the grocery store for diapers, formula, and bottled water, and some snacks and souviners from the gift shop, in addition to tips was it.

There is a nice courtyard as well as the pool area, and we also did some walking up and down the sidewalk in front between the hotel and the parking lot so you shouldn't get too stir crazy. (There is a wall between the parking lot and the street, so it isn't like you are near the "real" sidewalk.)

Sorry this is long!

Congrats on your visit trip!
And you'll love the Marriott!

We've been there twice. We actually got back from our 2nd visit trip last week.

There are 3 restaurants at the Marriott. Champions is like a sports bar/grill (similar to Champs in the U.S) and they sell burgers, sandwiches, beer, etc. We ate there one time right before we got the kiddos.
There is also an Italian restaurant and I took a quick peek at their menu's. Average prices, from what I can remember, is $13-15 per plate. It's a bit fancier restaurant.

We mostly ate at La Vista restaurant (where the breakfast buffets are at). It's a bit more casual and you can either sit inside or on their patio (next to the pool). There's different buffets every night: international, seafood, etc.. The breakfast buffets has all kinds of juices (including OJ), eggs, a grille where you can have your own omelette made, fruits, sausage, bacon, pancakes, and all kinds of breads.. Sometimes they change it up a little, such as waffles instead of pancackes, an ethnic dish enstead of potatoes, etc. You will definitely find something you will like.

I drank the OJ and saw many others did too and we never got sick. We never got sick from the food either (although, sometimes we ate to much ) . In fact, we drank the water they brought to our table and never got sick. They do say they have filtered water.

The buffet is 99 quetzales or $13 per person. The breakfast buffet was included with our stay so I don't know if they offer free breakfast for everybody. You can also order other food instead of the buffets: sandwiches, burgers, etc. I think the burgers were about $7-10 and it came with fries.

I wouldn't worry about having a fussy baby. There will be tons of other families there and everybody, including the staff is very understanding if the baby gets a bit fussy.

We used room service during our first visit. As newbie parents with 2 babies, were were a bit intimidated to run around the hotel with them.. But it is very expensive. I think it tacks on like an extra $15-$20 above and beyond the price of the food.

To help save a little during this trip, I went to the grocery store that was around the corner from the Marriot and bought snack foods, and we didn't order room service.. We just took both babes to the restaurant with us and took turns eating (one baby was on our lap and the other in the stroller)

Good Luck and have a WONDERFUL trip!

Oh ya, I forgot about the McDonalds across the street.. You can pay with U.S. dollars anywhere in the hotel and even at the McDonalds down the street.

Just a suggestion: we brought a wad of new $1 bills. We then took 2 or 3 of these bills and folded them up separately and put them in our pockets or in my purse. Then, when we wanted to give a tip, we would pull out just one set of these folded bills and give it to them. That way, you are not pulling out all your money for everybody to see and sifting through it all trying to find a couple dollar bills.

estimate

I was just there - we estimated that we spent $25 a day on food and drinks each. Breakfast was a full buffet - at least three kinds of fruit, 5 juices (loved the melon), they would make omelets, then they had other sides (bacon, pancakes, breads, etc)

A hamburger was around $6, salmon was $15, pasta dish was around $11.

There was also two other places to eat, but we didnt' go there. Did order room service one night - believe there was a 12% fee???

my sister was drinking marquitas - so they might have been part of the fees. Hope this helps,

oh - I did send the baby clothes to the laundry before we left - that charge was $1 per outfit.

The breakfast buffet was also included in our hotel stay. We hardly ever eat a huge breakfast like that and it really filled us up, so we just ate snacks (that we brought with us) for lunch, and for dinner we ate Campbell's Select soups which we also brought with us. They have so many to choose from, and we just put them in our checked baggage. It saved us a lot of money, and they were really good. We also brought some crackers to eat with them. They have a microwave in the baby room, and we just heated them up there and ate them either in our room or the baby room. Several families told us they wish they would have thought of that because it looked so good and would have saved them a lot of money. We did eat at Champs one time for dinner, and it wasn't too expensive.

Have a great time.
