Shay .... I can't tell you how much my heart aches to go with you! Jay and I were talking last night about going to visit again and that I would want to stay at the end of the visit and he would come home ..... we both agreed that I wouldn't be able to do it alone but IF YOU ARE THERE ...... got my wheels turning. Let me talk to him about it, we would be able to be there the beginning of August as well.

Where do you plan on staying? How much is it? there are so many questions .... so little time oh my GOSH Shay!!!!!!!!!!!
ok, I will pm you after Jay comes home ... not until about 4-5 Hawaii time (right now it is 150pm if that helps you figure out the time at all )

I will probably be staying in Antigua...there are plenty of 2 and 3 bedroom apartment sout there. I owuld like to stay in GC, but I have not found any where that is safe and affordable.

Ok, how on earth do you get your agencies to agree to this. My agency said they had never heard of anyone going to foster and didn't think it was legal... help me understand how you are getting to do this.

Lionbird, my agency would never let me do it either. I think they would think we would "butt in" too much. They like keeping us in the dark. Ha!

My agency encourages it, and I know many other ones that do to! I think it's totally legal (you have to fill out the paperwork, etc.), but it's just that some agencies would prefer you not to.

I am shocked that your agencies wont let oyu foster. That is one of the perks about Guatemala, it sure is not the price!!! We did not have to fill out any papers, the attorney brought the baby over to me at the hotel when I arrived and off we went.....

You have to have guardianship transferred into your name which is drawn up by an attorney in Guate and notarized. Your agency does this for you before you come to get the child for fostering. I carried these with me whenever I left by car to get groceries at hyper paiz etc because police do tend to pull cars over and ask what you are doing in Guatemala. It only happened once to us but it's best to show proof you have legal guardianship of your child.

I am thinking about fostering. I finally have dh jumping on board with me. We are visiting Aug. 2-6, and I am thinking about staying.
