A ??? on the 171H

Do we need to get the 171H authenticated? I don't remember doing it last time but everything else needs to be done so maybe this does too?

There is not a seal on it, so do I get it notarized with a letter attached saying all the legal stuff, then it goes to state, then Guat embassy? The more I think about it the more confused I make myself!!

same question

I was just trying to figure that out as well. We just got our H171 and I don't know what I need to do with it. I have our dossier all finished and authenticated. I wasn't sure if I need to do it with the H171 as well. Last time it was sent directly to our agency so I didn't deal with it.

Anyone know the answer???

I'm pretty sure this is one of those things that varies, depending on your agency (Have you asked your agency?) Ours does require us to get it state certified and then authenticated.

when we got our I171-H our agency sent us a doc (that we re-formatted) saying that this was an official copy of the I171-H. We did have to get that doc notarized, certified and autheticated, then sent over for the dossier. Hope that helps.

Sorry, I missed one of the questions. Most of the time the I-171H doesn't have a live signature (at least from what I've been told) We include a letter that says "The attached document, the USCIS I-171H form, is a true and original copy of the INS approval form." (Not exactly sure on the wording; agency provides it) Then we staple it to the form and have our affidavit notarized. Then we have the notary certified by the state, and then we submit it to the consulate for authentication.

But like I said before, I think what you do varies depending on your agency - so ask your agency how they handle this!

Our agency had us make copies for our records and then forward the original to them. We didn't have to have it notarized or authenticated.

I definitely would check with your agency.

My agency had me send them a copy and keep the original. It is my understanding that it doesn't need to be notarized/certified/authenticated. It is used by our government and a copy is cabeled to the embassy in Guatemala by the office that processed your 600a.

Greetings -- We did not have to have our I-171H notarized or authenticated. We simply provided a copy with our dossier and kept the original. I'd also suggest checking with your agency.

Best wishes

All we did is fax the agency a copy. The form had no signatures on it or anything..pretty simple.
